Value of half doors?

I paid $200 for rust free half doors that were the wrong color and the drivers has a large but shallow dent in it, its hardly even noticeable . Local small auto paint shop wants $950 to color match. I figure I will keep a look our for bright silver in good condition and think I could get them for less than $950

I like hard doors rather than soft for the factory mirror mounts.

Price will vary a lot by location. Most likely higher in the rust belt. Not too long ago, I bought a solar yellow pair off a guy in Texas for $350 (his asking price, didn't even try to talk him down). Came with smittybuilt fabric uppers. No rust, panels are good, paint only has a few scratches.

I'd like to add that I probably got lucky on this one; I was lucky enough to see and respond to the facebook marketplace post minutes after it was posted. After driving 3 hours one way to pick them up, the seller told me several people messaged him right after I did.

What brand are those?
Bestop, I think I paid $200 for those also brand new in 2017, I just looked at them on Quadratec & they're now $250, still worth every penny; I drive with them spring through fall & when I hit the mountains I pop them off & bungee them to my tool box in the back (something you can't really do with the steel halfs).

that's absolutely insane, probably a 'we don't want the job' price. Why not paint them yourself, one $20 can of factory match paint from automotivetouchup.com will cover both doors after adequate priming. Granted, it's not perfect but nothing on my rig is so it all matches the theme ...

funny, the first thing I removed from my half doors was the factory mirror mounts, can't stand those giant clunky things though I did keep them in case I change my mind; at least for now I'm rolling with my windshield frame mounted mirrors

I'd say $600 is the average price. But like @Irun mentioned, its all about color and condition. If someone is looking for an exact match, they will probably pay $800. Its also just about being lucky and being in the right place at the right time with the right color jeep responding to the ad within a few days of posting and getting there first. Orrrrrrr you can put the sweat equity in like @Westtown Willy and save some cash and still come out with a nice set. I paid $500 for mine, drove an hour away and it was it a perfect match in very good condition. Haven't come across another set since in the last 2 years

And yet here in Arizona I can't find shit. I scour eBay daily, as well as Craigslist, FB Marketplace, OfferUp, etc. I can find half doors but they are all beat to shit and look like they've been sitting in a junk yard. Case in point, look what this joker wants for the condition these things are in?

I don't care what color they are, all I want is a set of half doors that look like they've been tucked away and have no dents, rust, or damage, and have clean, non-fucked up door panels.

Why is this so hard to find?
Expand your search on the coast here from Eureka CA to Newport, also Corvallis, Grants Pass and Medford areas, if something pops up let me know and I'll get it and pack them up for you.

I appreciate that, I'll definitely do this. You'd think it would be easier to find something here in Arizona, but it isn't. They're all just beat to hell. I'll let you know if I find something!

Good post, I agree. @Hog found me a really nice stone white set for my 03 for $200, but that's a fluke.

What to I think about them as a TJ component?

Not a must have, but a nice to have.

May keep a little wind off of wife's legs/heat in.

They look great, even more so on an LJ.

We have a jku in town with color matched green ones..it makes it look so good.

I was dealing with the owner and was clear I intended to pay cash. I think he was thinking of a perfect job and I was thinking of a pretty good job. Probably a good reason to check automtomotivetouchup, I'm looking there now. I've never done auto painting but I have access to a paint booth.

He's trying to make a small job pay. For folks that sell work, they will be generally better off to use small work as a loss leader...to bring in bigger jobs by giving more people a chance to work with them.

Being high on small jobs often scares off clients.

At the same time, if they are busy, it distracts their focus from what pays the bills.

I typically see half doors pop up in the $200-$600 range. If someone knows what they have and the condition is good, they'll obviously be priced higher. For those that just want to free up space and sell things they don't need, then they'll be on the lower end. I went through 3 sets of half doors last year. The first was a set of red YJ half doors that came bundled with extras ($100). Then TJ half doors ($250). The previous owner didn't do a good job painting them, so I was never really happy with the purchase. I continued looking and then got the flame red set pictured below. Paint appears to be original and the plastic door panels are solid. No mirrors, but it came with a soft top, soft uppers, and door surrounds. $200 for all. I then sold the soft top and door surrounds for a profit. My Jeep is black though, so I need to paint them or find a set of black half doors.

In your case, I would say pricing would be somewhere between $600-$800. Some people (like us enthusiasts) look for parts year-round, but since you're in Long Island, you could also have more interest when the weather warms up.

As a barometer, I just bought a very nice pair of half doors with upper soft tops for $650. Color and inside panels match my Jeep. The only thing to do is change out the stainless hinges for painted one, re-key them and install mirrors. Buggers are a rare item in these parts and I am thrilled to have found them.

Half doors in the Southeast at 200-400 bucks a pair is fairly common right now...but I can't imagine that lasting. Mostly it's situations where the Jeep got sold and doors were in storage and forgotten, etc.

crazy what people will pay for these things, I've seen them for some stupid prices there's no way I'd pay; I just waited until stumbling onto a good deal on facebook. Paid $200 for mine, they were the wrong color & had some damage to the interior panels but a lotta work & some cash later I was all done at around $300 & ended up with a nice set.

I'd chew glass before paying $750-$1,000 for these.

Another alternative is cloth half doors, I've had them for years now & love them. Certainly not as cool as steel halfs but they hit most of the same buttons & going forward will remain the go-to door for wheeling purposes.

Did you just paint that interior door panel? That's the hold up for most of these for me. I need black interior panels, but most seem to be tan.

I believe his interior panels were tan originally IIRC. The dark slate spray color is SEM 17373.

yup, take a look at the bottom of page two of my build thread, they were tan as @jazngab said & my factory interior is slate gray. I also had to do some repair work to one of the panels, it had a large hole in it & a crack, I laid out the products I used and the process here:
