I use one.
How high it goes will be determined by how the lifting system is mounted to your ceiling.
I've done three of them, three different ways.

This one, I put a HF winch up in the attic. It lifted the rack flush to the ceiling. The top was probably a few inches below that.

Mounting the winch in the attic is certainly an option but one I am trying to avoid. I may have to go that route to get it high enough. With the Lange system can the rear glass on the top be closed when hooked up to the rack?

No.

My current setup, I have the winch on the wall, and I ran a piece of c-channel across the ceiling with pulleys in it.
I'll post a picture later.

I literally just lash my hardtop to the ceiling with paracord and a couple hooks. You can get it flush to the ceiling that way. Use the trucker's hitch to get the cords tight enough

I have the hoist with the hand crank and bought an additional T-bracket from Lange, a 48" piece of square tube from Lowes, and brackets from a company called Topsy Product. The brackets mount under the glass hinges and has a strap that goes around the new square tube. This lets me close the glass. I'll try to get pics of them.

Here are the pics of the brackets and the straps that hook onto them. I use the hoist to store the soft top in the winter

C-channel and pulleys, from Home Depot I think.

If you want it all the way up. I've seen setups with just 4 eye bolts and some ratchet straps. And the window can stay down also.

Thanks for the pictures!. I really like that Topsy hoist bracket. Its will solve one of my space problems with the rear glass needing to be open with some systems. I must assume the top attachment point is strong enough to support the weight of the rear part of the top.

Even if you can leave the window down, having space to open the tailgate is usually helpful. Your situation might be different.

I assume the brackets stay on all the time. Does mounting them under the hinge push the glass out farther, affecting the seal?

They mount on top of the hinges. Just loosen the bolts for them and slide the brackets under bolts and tighten bolts one at a time.
I haven’t had any problems with the seals.
You can leave them on.

It certainly appears to me the brackets mount on top of the hinges so do not push the glass out at all. If anything they might require longer bolts but I think that is unlikely. Since the bolts do not need to be removed but only loosened the brackets can be easily removed and replaced if wanted or kept in place at all times. I have thought about simply removing the glass when putting the top in the hoist but that is a three hand operation and I am trying very hard to be able to install / remove the top by myself.
