Mine showed up for the LJ yesterday (7 days after order placement, I'm on a good run with Savvy lead times). I have some other things to get done before I get to installing them but I haven't really figured out what I want to do when it comes to paint. Not so much how to paint aluminum (already read the thread on that), but more on the aesthetic choices.

The steel parts will definitely be black, probably a lightly textured black that's easy to touch up. But when it comes to the aluminum I'm looking for ideas. Bare aluminum? Clearcoat? A paint that looks like bare aluminum? Body color (flame red)? Black (Gloss, flat, textured, SEM Landau)? TBH they look pretty awesome right now but I imagine left unprotected they'll probably dull and/or get that dusty white crap that shows up on aluminum wheels, and I don't want that.

I like the look of body color matched aluminum. For the steel part I painted mine with monstaliner and matched the color the best I could to the dark khaki flare color.

My wait time for the sliders was considerably longer. While waiting I went through the headache process of deciding to paint or not. Blaine did the install and he suggested I powder coat the slider the body color, and paint the rock rail semi-gloss black. His suggestion was spot on, I couldn't be happier with the look.

Wow. Bunch of good looking Jeeps in here.

I think I've ruled out black for the aluminum rockers. I like the understated look of body color. I might get some quotes for powder coating but I'm also not afraid of doing the paint work myself. Been looking for an excuse to get a spray gun and move up from the rattle can, and I'm gonna be respraying my hood eventually so the rockers might make good practice.

I think you will be happy with the look. Just realized that photo of mine wasn't the best shot but you get the idea. I too would like to move up to the spay gun but need to upgrade the air compressor too, not sure what size to buy.

I've had lots of aluminum painted by autobody shops and professional painters. I'd strongly encourage you to get any aluminum powder coat primed by a good shop before you paint them. I've never had a peeling problem or other issue with auto paint over powder coat primer. I've had many issues with body shop primed and painted aluminum.

I've done several now with the aluminum backer painted the body color. I'm still waiting for the one that I don't like. That look ticks all the boxes for me as to what looks good.

I know nothing more than the basic principle of how powder coating works. Could I just have them coated in my color of choice and then me do the clear?

Mine took nine weeks to receive. For you to get them in one week is awesome!

I'm in the process of getting the rockers powder coated body color and sliders will be black.

What a great two piece system mrblaine has designed!

I had mine powder coated straight black since I was dealing with a shop during my frame swap and they were being annoying about getting it body matched. If I was installing them myself, the backer would have been body color with a black slider.

I've found that my powder coating is starting to flake off some of the small edges of the sliders. For example the corners of the backer are starting to lose their powder coat, something I noticed only one year after install. Doesn't really bother me since it isn't noticeable whatsoever.

Yes, as long as your color of choice happens to be one of their samples.
Guessing the chances aren't good that they're gonna have a sample of Chrysler PR4, haha. If I just go ask for primer will I get the right stuff or do they need more specific info? Will the shop include prep work or do I need to scuff them up and smooth off the edges just like I would if I was painting?
