My stepmother was diagnosed with cancer. It was caught early. She had surgery yesterday, everything went well and she is home recovering. They are optimistic they got it all. She may not have to have radiation.

Teaching him how to write his name in the snow will be next.Good news, bad news, no Owen.
Good news, got to actually drive my LJ for the first time in a month. Remembered how to use a clutch.
Bad news, got a PO431 code after 150 miles. I know it’s either an exhaust leak, a bum O2 sensor, or a catalytic converter going bye bye. I do have a fancy OBD2 reader that does real time but it’s got to wait. Bigger fish to fry.
What the hell, here’s some Owen. We have the boys Tuesday’s and Thursday’s again. So, we get the boys to the house Tuesday morning. I had two cups of coffee before getting them so it was time for a pee break. As I’m doing my thing, Owen bursts into the bathroom screaming, “I gotta pee”, and he just stands next to me and goes. Then starts talking to me about random stuff. Gotta tell ya, I raised girls so this is all different to me.
Got my sisters’ place in Pineville, LA. No power, house is fine, garage/barn got beat up, scared the crap out of her horse, big branch on the pasture fence, bigger branch across the now flat JD mower. I managed to get through to her today and told her three times it was okay to plug her travel trailer into her generator so she’d have some A/C.This missed me by less than 100 miles last night.

That's good to hear. A friend of mine had a vacation home in Lake Jackson. 3 trees took out the house like a scud missile including the barn in back with a boat and couple of jet skis. Just never know what these storms will do and a lot of damage from hurricanes comes from the tornados they spawn off.Got my sisters’ place in Pineville, LA. A lot of my mom in there.
That's awesome! And I feel good after reading this because my front door lock/latch finally took a shit yesterday and I was up until 11pm researching and ordering up new locks for both front/back doors. I started eyeballing those electronic ones thinking hell they've been out awhile maybe I should get with the times. But decided against that because I just don't like the idea of electronic crap locking the doors to my house. Thanks for the reassuring story!I usually make a lot of mention of my youngest grandson, Owen, just because his is so interesting. Today, though, is about Owens’ big brother, Eli. Eli was sort of a hero yesterday.
Backstory. Grandma picked up the boys for the day. She got to the house and had, depending on your viewpoint, a perfect storm or a comedy of errors. Also, bear in mind that I am 400 miles away, driving home from a job in N. Minnesnowta.
We have an electric combo deadbolt on the front door. It malfunctioned. My wife digs in her purse for her house keys, which are actually on the kitchen table, next to her phone. She goes to here car to open the garage door but realizes that the opener is also on the kitchen table. Would not have mattered. Door between the house and garage is also locked. She is locked out.
Eli to the rescue. He has an old iPhone. The phone is disabled but internet isn’t. He logs on to our internet and IMs his mom. Mom calls me, not that I can do anything. I suggest she gets them back to her place and have Grandma call me on her phone.
So, Grandma calls and we discuss options. She wants to break a window on the backdoor. I tell her no because one basement window is unlocked. Maybe one of the boys can be lowered into the basement and unlock the front door.
That’s what happened. His Dad came home early with a buddy. They got the screen off the window. Owen was first choice but he was having none of it, so Eli pulled up his big boy pants and volunteered. His Dad wrapped a tie down strap under Eli’s arms and lowered him through the window. And Eli did the rest. After getting the front door opened, Eli farted with the lock and it worked fine. I dunno.
I want to reward him for what he did. Grandma wants to treat him to DQ, I want to give him his own pocket knife. Looks like he’s getting both.
I’m not much of a fan of electronically controlled anything, but I do like the combo lock. It does have a mechanical backup. I am thinking of putting one on my other garage. If Grandma would have grabbed all her stuff on the way out, I wouldn’t have had a story to tell. That's awesome! Love my electronic door lock, they key backup will always work if there’s an issue. That's awesome! Tell him it's a "Transformer" for grown-ups.So Eli got his Leatherman knockoff on Tuesday. I wasn’t home for it but Grandma said he was kind of ‘meh’ at first. ”You’re giving me a plier?” Then he saw what else it was. It was pretty cool, then. He is going camping this weekend with a new tool to help his Dad set up.
