How do you guys feel about chrome grills?

In 2006 my wife said go check out the LJ, it should be enough room for us since my son was almost 6 at the time and wanted a convertible. I was driving a Cherokee Sport at the time but had a YJ for 10 years before that.
I brought home the brochure and the centerfold was a black Wrangler with the appearance group, chrome grill and wider painted flares in black. She said go buy that one!
Happy wife and I've been driving it everyday since then.
I think it looks good with black and the flares don't fade since they're painted but not crazy about the chrome grill on other colors.

I had a chrome package, from chrome tube bumpers to mirror accents and grill.

The chrome grill is on at the moment for some contrast. I like it enough for now.

As they say, "chrome don't get you home"... this is the chrome grille on my LJ, seen here being strapped over a ledge that was too big for my 32" tires/2" lift.

I like this chrome grille because it's retro - factory standard on the CJ-7 Laredo model and since my LJ is retro I think it looks right.

I've seen your work on here, @jscherb, and while I'm not a fan of chrome on a jeep you make them look amazing.

I'd take a jscherb custom designed anything on my tj, chrome or otherwise. Hell, it could be purple. I think.

Well I'm new around here but I'll echo what others have offered - do what makes you happy and if that bothers someone else, that's not a you problem.

With that said, since you do seem to be soliciting opinions of others, I think it looks nice if it's on a darker color with the matching flares. I have kind of an odd predilection where I think a vehicle shouldn't show more than 2 colors from a given angle, and chrome grill, body color, black flares would violate that.

I hate chrome grills almost as much as angry eyes, but there is zero effect on function, so it's purely a taste thing. If you like them I say do it give no clucks on what anybody else thinks.

I've been hoping to find a chrome overlay that I can paint, add lights and make into a wall decoration for the garage.
One of the first things I did was remove the overlay, mine is hanging on the wall of the garage. I plan to add lights and make it into a display for my badge of honors.

I'm not a fan of chrome on 4x4s. My opinion is it belongs on show cars that clean and polish it often. It's your ride though, so only your opinion should matter in the end.

If mine came with a chrome grill, I wouldn't waste time and money taking it off and replacing it. If someone offered me a free replacement that matched my color, I'd take it. But I take most free stuff offered to me.

Would you rather pay money to change a grill that 99% of people don't really care about or spend that money to improve performance with a better component upgrade? I guess grills are a rather low priority in my book. But I don't understand people spending hundreds on the Angry Bird grills, fancy headlights, 20" tires, or lots of stickers then buying a HF winch and running open differentials either.

My Jeep came with 18" takeoffs from some newer Jeep. I'm not a fan of them but I'd rather buy a front axle locker and new shafts than spend the money to replace brand new wheels and tires. I'll put some wear on them and replace them last.

When I purchased the Jeep I was not too fond of the chrome grill, but as others have posted.... the chrome grill grows on you and I prefer the chrome over the angry eyes.
I checked the build sheet and the Jeep was ordered with the chrome grill and tubular bumpers.

All the grills are overlays. Super simple to take off.

Stainless - good
Chrome - not so good.
Totally IMO

I have a white TJ and the painted grill currently looks horrible. Lots of paint chips like it had been kind of sandblasted. I have black tube fenders. I might replace the grill, or get it repainted, one day. Might have to test out a black grill in photoshop.
