She's in the paint shop

Looks like you got a heck of deal. Some of my jobs 10-15 years ago, $800 would hardly cover materials. But that's all House of Kolor stuff. I've been out of the game for awhile.

Not poo pooing this at all. For what you are using your Jeep for, you don't need a full on custom, show quality paint job. And the single stage route is smart for exactly what you said. Easier to fix.

Kudos to the shop you found. Going to look nice once you get it back together.

Thanks man! Good to hear from an experienced paint and body guy. I can't wait to get it back and get it all together.

Nothing wrong with single stage paints these days esp from a quality supplier (PPG). Clear is mixed in with the base colors and is plenty durable.. even metallics have gotten good results. Like any paint job it's all in the prep and number of coats. Looks like a great deal. I recently took advantage of the virus slowdown and got my F150 painted and came out awesome.

Yep... Like I said, I was actually glad to hear it was a single stage paint.

OK guys... So a little update on this thread. I finally got back from Mobile and was able to get by the body shop this morning. Needless to say I was very pleasantly surprised, but before we dive into the pics I want to clarify this is not a base coat/clear coat paint job it is a single stage PPG urethane paint. And honestly I'm glad. I have had really good experiences with single stage paints in the past when trying to buff scratches and and fading out. So being a Jeep that I plan to get scratched up I think it's for the best. Now that that's out of the way on to the pics.

This is Randy Spillman. He's the owner. I think his son Josh did most of, if not all of, the work.

A better shop of the quality of the paintwork...

It turned out better than I could have hoped for. Can't wait to get it back and get it all put back together.
Single stage paints for the win! (y)

Hey guys,

Just a follow up on this thread. I got my Jeep back from the paint shop and I am very well pleased. I ended up buying new fender flares for $118 off of Amazon and had the shop install those. I also took the full doors and had them go ahead and paint them as well, so now I have both half doors and full doors freshly painted. The whole thing cost me $940. I also ended up getting a brand new set of EAG bumpers for free. (I'll post about that separately.) And I picked up a brand new Smittybilt frameless top for $200 (I'll post about that separately too.)

I still have my lift and winch to install, but I got most of it put back together over the last few afternoons and finally got it washed for the first time since the paint yesterday afternoon and took a few pics. So here's the results...

That is a heck of a view from that fire pit. Is that your house?

That's our cabin. We've been living here full time since March, but we still have a 4 bedroom house in Birmingham. Thank goodness my 86 year old father sold his house and he's going to move in there.

We are going to add on a large great room and a master bedroom suite on the main floor of the cabin and then we will eventually retire up here full time.

We love the rural area up here, the mountain people, the quiet and solitude and of course the view and the sunrise every morning.
