Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

What did you do to your TJ today?

When I bought my bone stock 06, LJ it had 40k on the clock, 7 yrs. ago. From day one it had a slight vibration starting at 50mph. Nothing to really feel except in the seat of your pants. I put on new tires about a month later , 31x10.5x15. MT's. No change. Yesterday I rebuilt the front driveshaft and while I had it out I took it for a drive. Well no vibration, nothing at all. I put the driveshaft back in and there it was.
I pulled it again and brought it to a local shop for balancing, reinstalled and its smooth as glass clear to 75.
I figure it might have been that way since new.

Today was a big day for the Jeep.

1. About two months ago I scored a very nice set of silver 1/2 doors with black trim and uppers on Craigslist for $280. No rust, a single little dent. They needed about $40 in hardware to be complete, and to be green with tan:cry:. For the price I could not pass them up, but I am too cheap to paint them right now, so they got a flat black vinyl wrap. I suck at wrapping so I see these getting painted over next winter unless I can find someone who wanted to trade for the correct color.

2. Installed a integrated garage door opener. Hid the opener above the glove box, soldered 12v power onto the opener board and extended the button over to the center stack just to the right of the power port. No more opening the glove box just to open the garage.

3. Started on the brakes. I purchased a BMB front and rear kit durring the 2019 black Friday sale, and am just now getting them installed. Man! they are a greasy, dirty mess. 2.5 cans of brake clean and 2 or 3 cheapo brass brushes later and I got the right front cleaned and ready to reassemble. Finish up the rest tomorrow I hope.

4. Last but not least, I scored a new in box (staples still in tact) Warn Zeon 10 winch. Way overkill for the TJ, but at $600 I could not pass it up. This will get mounted once I get a plate for the stock front bumper.

Put the transmission, transfer case and exhaust pipe back in the Jeep today. Went ahead and changed the oil in the transmission and transfer case. The oil in the transmission was pretty dirty, the oil in the transfer case was really dirty.

Took the Jeep for a test drive. The new clutch is smooth as butter. I greased all the working components and it really helped. The new rear main seal appears to be holding also. The sway issue appears to be better too. Need a little more drive time to tell if everything is good.

Installed a little BlueSea 4 circuit PDU/Fuse box thingie, which was easy enough, but more complicated than it needed to be. Patched an apparent cigarette burn hole in the driver's seat, and discovered that my Jeep leaked after a rain - water in the driver's footwell. I'll have to figure *that* out, but I don't see how a Jeep could NOT leak! I also installed a set of Hella H4 retrofit headlites.

This is a bad ass ride! The lights look like KC 57 Series.
Thanks
Yes, they are KC lights, but don't know/remember the model number.
I had a lot of fun building that. It actually had all stock suspension. I did the spring/axle flip which gained 7" off lift and built a 3" body lift for a total of 10" over stock to fit the 39" Mickey Thompson Baja Belted tires.
Built it in 1983, sold it in 86 for a down payment on a house. Still in the same house today, so i guess it wasn't in vain.. LOL.

I posted this yesterday on the "What did you do to your TJ today", but since I have a LJ I'm obligated to post here as well lol

Finally got a set of half doors and uppers from a seller 2 hours away! Needs a little TLC and some mirrors but the color matches!

After getting them on yesterday the door latches inside and out feel weak so I may be taking them apart and getting some new hardware down the road. But overall I'm happy to have a set and another project to work on! The dog on the other hand is not so sure haha

You know, sometimes your brain realizes that "it doesn't make any difference" and/or " it won't accomplish anything", but you just GOTTA "do something about that" anyway. In this case, its the rear brake drums - heavily rusted. Worked on one today - wire wheeled the worst of the rust off. It now looks like a relic from the 1800s - heavily pitted around the circumference although the rim mating surface is smooth. I flat blacked the darn thing with high temp paint. Has to dry 2 hours before I can put the wheel back on. Looks better at least, looks pretty good from 10 feet away - old stage makeup trick. Tomorrow I'll do the other one.

Installed rear bumper tie in brackets/braces- Poison Spider

Grrr I love your getup and go attitude. I bought those same ones two years ago, and they are still sitting on the shelf. You would think with all of this self quarantining, I would have time to just go out and do it.

They look great! Nice job!
