The good news thread

I'm not real public about personal things but I'm happy to currently be cancer free! It's been a long two years involving surgery, rehab, and a year of treatments at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. It's situations like this that make you realize what is truly important in life. They say you should aways try to turn a negative into a positive and this is what I have learned from my journey, I have an amazing wife who helped me during my bad days. Our relationship is stronger than ever before. Having cancer forced me reevaluate my priorities and I'm truly grateful. Take care and enjoy those who are important to you, Kevin
Congratulations @KMG glad you are cancer free. I know how you feel. I was down a similar road 20 years ago.

Had quite the ordeal trying to get this new G10 grips and modify them to fit my P227 Carry. Bit both good and bad. lol

Grip Screws arrived this morning - P228 screws do in-fact work for the 227 bushings.

I also realized that... I should have done this done professionally. lol

One side is longer than the other.

One side I took too much off and it's shorter than I'd like.

The bottom speaks for its-self. lol

I used a coping saw and even with the clamp on the deck I couldn't keep it as steady as I wanted and apparently can't make straight cuts either.

I was going to use my Grandfather's Sears Dremel that looks as old as me but the clutch wouldn't engage, so I couldn't use it. Runs just fine, the head just won't spin.

The grips (thanks to my terrible cuts) also ate up the 120g sandpaper I wanted to use to knock 'em down to size and then finish them off with the 400g and 3000g.

Key is that the things work and feel WAAAAY better than the E2s. It actually feels slimmer with these G10s.

I think I'll keep the E2s so I can sell it with original, non janky-looking hardware if I so choose to do so. lol

So please, have a couple laughs at my terrible handiwork and learn that if you want this done... SEND IT TO SOMEONE BETTER THAN ME!!! :D

Today’s good news is my backyard fox family has a new addition, it’s kind of hard to see in the video as I took it through my bedroom window from about 100 feet away, but you’ll see the little guy or gal next to the shed with mom presiding over. This family has been in my yard for over 20 years, their den is in the opposite corner about 200 feet to the right of the shed & they’ve done a fantastic job patrolling my yard & thinning the vermin population over the years. They’ve taken down some big game, I’ve found full fresh vertebrae picked clean next to/behind the shed that I presume is either ground hogs or other similarly sized animals that became dinner for the fox.

I used to have three foxes that would come out and play in my backyard at one of my other houses last year, it was great fun to watch them. Thanks for reminding me.

When I lived in The Presido, I would see foxes like those all the time on my morning run. They had no fear; are yours shy of people?

I guess I never realized foxes could take down anything much bigger than mice or rats.

Do they ever let you approach them?

My Brothers have been home from College due to the virus, and today they brought home a bottle of Jack for my birthday.

We've been kicking it for the past week at night watching old Patriots and Bruins games on tv. It's been pretty fun, as we always seem to be apart from each other doing different things. It's been fun sharing a 30 rack, watching old sports and playing Call of Duty.

😜 that was back in my carefree days

that's the stuff right there, Owen is the man! Haven't met him but I love that kid 😝

thank you bigly, kind sir!

Back on the subject of weather, we're on a roller coaster here, was mid-70's last friday & I celebrated by knocking off around mid-day & going into town for my annual spring sidewalk dining beer festival at my favorite micro brewery (really just me and a couple buddies drinking beer on the first really warm Friday of March), we did it nice, started at Iron Hill Brewery where I enjoyed a few pints of Pig Iron Porter, their signature porter. Iron Hill was one of the first in the game of the modern micro brewery era, started around 25 years ago & they've grown into quite a local favorite with 20 or so locations, some of which have migrated south as deep as South Carolina & Atlanta.

So on Friday we were joined by one of the owners, he just happens to live in West Chester which is also home to one of the original locations. He was telling me that Pig Iron Porter is one of their original brews, one of the few survivors (if not the only one) from their opening; makes sense, I think I've been drinking it that long 😁

they just kept coming 🤙

After that we moved down to Sidebar, another of our favorites, but by then the sun was in retreat so it was a bit too cold for my ass so I headed down to Opa, a new Greek Restaurant to see some other friends, good news there is that they finally got their liquor license, they opened last summer but the license had been on hold for around 6 months; it was cool though, in the interim it was a BYOB which is always a bit kinder on the wallet. Called an old college friend on my way there & she just happened to be driving through town at the time so she parked & had a drink, some Greek style grilled octopus & Opa Chips (fried eggplant and zucchini), was really fun.

Edit: wanted to add the 'story' of Iron Hill, pretty cool, just 3 guys that wanted to make beer, they have truly lived the dream:

Late replying but wanted to mention we found the Iron Hill up in Hershey and really liked the set up with the bar garage doors, food, and of course the beer. Recently found one over in southern Delaware by the beach, looking forward to checking it out. Looks like you all had a great time, looking forward to these times again soon.

They’re normally extremely skittish & nocturnal in nature, most that I come in contact with are around dawn as I’m out walking & as soon as they see me they take off, but some of the ones in my neighborhood have gotten a bit lackadaisical & won’t run nearly as quickly. The family on my property is generally out & about more often during the day than is otherwise common. Sometimes I’ll catch one just laying in the sun near the shed curled up like a dog on a recliner & he’ll stay there for a good long while, but they’ll still run if I try to walk towards them.

I guess I never realized foxes could take down anything much bigger than mice or rats.

I’m not sure they’re what’s killing the larger animals, but I’d like to think its them rather than something a lot bigger & unexpected in my area… here's a random shot from a few years ago, I had a whole bunch of them that I can't seem to find. Sorry my pictures are terrible, I usually take them through a window with the zoom all the way in on my crap ass Iphone

I haven't been to the one in Hershey but it's supposed to be a good one. They're Delaware guys, that's where their first spot was, the one I frequent most often is in West Chester PA which was their second location, it's dead smack in the middle of town, West Chester is a college town (West Chester University) so it's always lively. They recently went big time & opened up a street level location right in center city Philly at the base of a brand new high rise right on Market Street, it's absolutely beautiful. I think they'll continue expanding, slowly but surely, they've got a great model and they do it right. I couldn't begin to estimate the number of bars & restaurants that have come & gone in the past couple of decades as Iron Hill just continues to grow. Their consistency is spot on which is a huge part of it, they always deliver outstanding beer & food & the atmosphere is great. I wish them nothing but continued success.

Sounds like a good time. One of my college buddies from back east still has his Nintendo 64, when we all get together we like to play a little Golden Eye like we all used to (minus the abundance of substances).

I've been catching up on old sports too, just finished up the '17 Caps-Rangers series.

Actually have some good news to post! Got a tentative job offer for a Minerals Physical Science Tech with the Forest Service out in Wyoming today.

It is temp/seasonal, full-time. There are some other openings that I qualify for in the department. Fingers crossed I can parlay this into one of those positions and permanently relocate.

Said it's up to HR now and if I get a formal offer, I should hear from them in a few weeks, maybe less if I'm lucky.

Woo!

I love me some Goldeneye! I still have my N64 and a bunch of cool games.

I usually don't drink, but when I'm kicking it with them I'll indulge. Before you know it things will go back to normal, and I won't be able to.

As I mentioned above my daughter moved across the state to Western Pennsylvania a month ago. We were texting back & forth on Tuesday I mentioned that I wanted cookies, this is the conversation that ensued:

After waiting 6-1/2 weeks from ordering my Savvy Aluminum Front Bumper, I received an email with a tracking number! Yipee! Now I need to wait just a little longer to get it.
I bought a brand new Warn Zeon Platinum 10-S Winch a few weeks ago and it will finally take it's rightful place soon.
