Auto Shutdown Relay / Kill Switch

Or a latching relay.
Which is how those "wave the magnet over the hidden switch" systems work. The downside to those is that first you need to turn the ignition on, then wave the magnet, then start the vehicle. Not such a big deal but it can screw you up if you are in a hurry.

I found out that "kill switch" in Texas is "lead-base" very brutal. It can really screw up the thieves.
I just wanted to say thanks for someone posting on this I am in the process of doing it. I’m also new to the form and look forward to taking part. Also Tj2 I like your way of going about it. Here in Chicago we have the same type of “kill switch” ;-)

Old thread I know but I wanted to post this in case there was another jeeper out there looking for guidance like me. I just did this. This wire bundle is located next to the battery. That blue with yellow traced wire runs inside it. Here is a picture.

I HIGHLY SUGGEST for the wire to be spliced just a bit higher than where I did it. Once you try to put all tubing, etc back in place, it is too tight right next to the battery. Mine is super tight and I messed up by connecting my Orange wire through the “outside”. It works fine therefore I don’t want to mess with it.

This is an easy thing to do. The ASD relay is inside the Power Distribution Center on the passenger-side fender well, directly in front of the battery. Unbolt it so you can get to the wiring underneath it that leads to the ASD relay.

There is a dark blue wire with a yellow tracer in it that connects the ASD relay to the PCM (computer). Cut that wire several inches away from where it connects to the relay mounting base. Give yourself enough wire length to work with. Very carefully splice a pair of wires to the two cut ends of that wire. Be sure to use good splicing technique, I would solder the connections and slide heat-shrink tubing over the splices. Do a good job here, take your time as this is not where you want to do a bad job... this is a critical circuit for the Jeep. If you botch it up the Jeep won't start.

Run that pair of wires to wherever you want the defeat switch to be located, in a hidden area is my suggestion. Then connect a good quality SPST (on-off) switch to those two wires. Don't use a small cheap switch that might fall apart, use a good heavy-duty switch since you really want all of this to be ultra-reliable. Mount the switch and you're done.

Can I use the same method but hook up to the rear wiper switch?

I'm not sure what I'm missing here. I cut the dark blue wire with yellow tracer from the bottom of the ASD relay and my TJ starts and runs fine. Is it different for the 06? I ran 2 separate wires to a single pole switch and I can start the jeep in either position. I followed the wire directly from the bottom of the relay so I'm fairly confident its the right one, nd its the only blue/yellow wire in that harness.

Are you sure your single pole switch works fine? I highly doubt they would’ve changed the wiring for the colors in the 06 but it is possible.

I used these

Nilight heavy duty rocker toggle on/off switch

I thought it could be the switch even though it’s a brand new heavy duty switch. so I disconnected both terminals and it still starts and runs with an open circuit.

Thats what I needed, thanks @dbbd1 . It was the Brown/white wire on mine.

My fault for not doing my own research before I started. I saw the thread, found the same color blue/yellow going to what turns out to be the A/C relay right next to the ASD and went for it. The Brown/White wire was the fix for my 06.

Now I have a hidden kill switch!
