In the lifetime of my Jeep, I’ve taken it to an actual shop maybe five times. I’ve proudly done most of the work myself but since I just don’t have the time these days, I dropped off the TJ at my locally owned neighborhood shop this morning to have the rear main seal and transmission seals replaced. There was also this awful noise coming from the top end. It mostly went away when warmed up. I’m thinking that it’s probably something in the valvetrain, or maybe since mine is a 2000 with 160k on the original 0331 head I mentally prepared myself for paying for installing a new one.
He asked me to open the hood while he went inside to get something, and comes back out with a can of WD-40 and sprays the belt. Boom. Noise is gone. It helps to bring it to a professional
