Call me nostalgic, but with bikini weather just around the corner, can a CJ roll bar fit in a TJ without drilling new mount holes? Does anyone make that triangle shape for a TJ? To me it just makes the Jeep look just right.

Some of the CJ bars were just mounted on top of the wheel wells, the main hoop didn't run down to the floor. These bolted through both the wheel well and the outer rear quarter panels. I'm sure they would fit but holes would need drilled. I'd be surprised if the newer CJ bars that bolted to the floor wouldn't need some holes drilled and probably some shims to make up for whatever dimensions have been changed over the years.

I prefer that look to myself but I have kids that ride back there. I know I saw a thread on another site years ago where somebody did this and they had to work on the angle to make it work. If I can find it, Ill let you know.

EDIT: Couldn't find it but I did come across this post from 2003 concerning CJ roll bars in TJ's. This sounds like the way to go...
The windshield bars and seat belt mounts will need to be addressed since the CJ bar doesn't go to the floor. The side of the body also mounts to the roll cage near the striker plate. The TJ inner fender is too roundy for the CJ roll bar platform. You would be modifying a safety item so this might not be a good idea but... I would cut off the rear loops and weld in diagonal (CJ- like, early wrangler-like) bars using the same mounting flange. This way you would have the factory seat belt mounts and windshield bars. Someday I might do the same thing

Seems like custom is the way to go rather than a retrofit. Either way you are having to think long and hard about what your expectations of safety are.

Just me and the pup. She is a front seat girl all the way. Can't see a squirrel from the back. Was hoping for a rather quick change kinda thing. Looks like I'm gonna have to leave it alone. Can't really see it when driving anyways. Just an old man trying to relive some of the past. (Sigh).

I hear you brother! I definitely don’t think it’s not doable though. If you know somebody that can weld, I would think that could be done in a day easily. Not to spend your money but I think it would look good!
