Hey guy's, I live in CA and I will need to smog my Jeep eventually. When I bought it, I asked the dealer (used car lot) if it will pass smog and he said it was already taken care of, so I didn't think much of it. Then after a couple times of looking under the hood I noticed the canister on the driver fender is missing a hose or cap or something. Can anyone tell me if I am missing something? Or, better yet, share a link or pic of what I am missing so I can start thinking about getting said thing before I have to smog it again? :D It's a 1999.

I attached a photo of the driver side section so you guys can look to see what may be missing if anything. :D

Just bumping this up. I saw a 98 on either here or another forum and it appears to just have a cap over the canisters top port (don't know what to call the thing that is open on the top portion of mine. LOL) Least I didn't call it a thingy! :D

Yah, I found pics like that too, but I can't see where the hose goes too, and on the 98 Jeep pic I saw, it didn't have the leak detection unit either. I believe that is the round thing in your pic you shared, that has the 4 slots in it, closest to the front of the box. I'm not sure if my year needs that? I'm not getting any kind of check engine lights on, so I would think it was all working properly. At least I would think I would get a light if the smog stuff wasn't working?

I guess I will have to take it to our smog guy and see what he has to say. I just want to get it figured out before I need a smog, (hopefully 4 years from now if I heard right) so I am not trying to find things last minute. I have found trying to find parts for Wranglers is actually pretty hard, when you want to find used stuff that is. LOL

I went to your link you provided and checked to see if that part fit my Jeep, it say's it doesn't. So maybe mine just has the cap where the hose is in your pic?

I believe it depends on whether you have a Federal Emissions model or a CA emissions model. The sticker on the hood will say if it is still there. That should also determine if it has the LDP and the hose or a vent cap on that port.

Ok, I'll go have a look. I believe the sticker is under the hood.

Hard to say. I'm wondering if your Jeep is a 49 state or a California Emissions Jeep. There should be an emissions decal in the engine compartment which would list what it is, and show what emissions equipment the Jeep came equipped with.

Ok according to my sticker, at least I think I am reading it right, I'm good to go. Just need a cap. :D. Thanks mrblaine!!
