So, after replacing my cats about 2 years ago and driving my jeep 4.0 as my daily driver in the Las Vegas heat, I came across the dreaded p0432 code recently. This code indicates a possible failure at the second bank catalytic converter with many possibilities. So I began the research into why this is happening and many folks immediately pointed to and aftermarket catalytic converter as a definite cause for this code. Naturally, I was infuriated and frustrated because I had recently replaced the cats with 4 new NTK 02 sensors. I then ran into a guy at the local parts store also in a jeep TJ and began discussing our jeep issues and modifications. Long story short, this gentleman asked if I had ever tried cleaning the O2 sensors in which I had never done. I just replace them. But frustration and curiosity remained as I drove away from the parts store. So the next morning, I took out out just the 02 sensors on bank 2 and began to clean the sensors with a fresh can of carb cleaner. I then let them sit and air dry as I also sprayed the cleaner into the holes where I removed to sensors. Finally, I replaced the sensors, and reset the check engine light and went about my daily routine. Now after 200 miles I went down to my local smog check station and much to my surprise, the jeep passed the smog inspection. There you have it folks. Before spending hundred of dollars and hours of time replacing parts, try this simple and cheap procedure. Especially if you have recently replaced the cats with aftermarket. The worst that can happen is you lost a few bucks and spent thirty minutes of your time. In my case, it was worth it and I was able to renew my registration and the jeep is still driving well without any check engine lights.
