So when I first got my Jeep a few months ago I had to replace the steering stabilizer to fix the death wobble or so I thought. Now I’ve been told the stabilizer is only a cover up and I’m noticing it too. When I’m on the highway right at 60 I start to get almost a baby death wobble and I can feel the Jeep shaking and the steering wheel rocks in my hands. I was thinking about getting a new steering kit but I would like to save the money if anyone has a better idea.

DW is commonly triggered by imperfect tire balance and it is allowed to fully develop when some a component like the track bar, tie rod, etc. is too loose to dampen out the vibrations triggered by a bad tire balance. So that the steering stabilizer is NEVER the cure for DW is correct, only helps mask the problem... like covering up a skin cancer with a band-aid. Get your tires PERFECTLY balanced. Even if they were recently balanced, few shops will spend the time to get them perfectly balanced as is important on the larger tires found on Jeeps. Then go around to the various fasteners on the front-end and make sure they're tightened to spec. Especially the track bar which should have zero-side-to-side movement when the steering is turned back & forth with the tires on the ground. Track bar, tie rod ends, shocks, etc.
