This video came up in my feed. Dude uses a can of Seafoam spray on his Toyota 4.7l V8 that has almost 250,000 miles on it.

Anyone here every do this with our 4.0l straight 6?

Here's my $.02 worth. I work on a lot of carbs off things that sit around. For shits and giggles Ive used seafoam quite a few times and I cant say it did anything as far as running different. Ive also taken a empty glass bottle with some fresh seafoam in and dropped a couple main jets in it from a mower. I still have that bottle with the jet and seafoam in it. Its looks just like it did over a year ago. I posted a response to YT'er who swore up and down SF is the best thing since sliced bread. I told him of my experience, he told me S/F isnt engineered to work that way. I assume he meant by cleaning gum off carb parts. WTH is it good for then I ask. Basically its Naptha and light oil. Both can be bought separately for pennies on seafoam's dollar also. Just more snake oil IMO. If it dont have "PEA" in it like Techron or many others, its substandard for a fuel system IMO.

I ran CRC Fule Treatment through my Jeep right after I bought it and cant say yeah or nea but I ran it through the GF's Dodge pickup that would not start and it is running like a top. Ran it in the gas tank and sprayed Berrymans in the intake to get it started. She only drives it like 10 miles a week so I told her to drive it to work once in a while. I do think after I ran it in my Jeep it has caused a periodic O2 sensor code but not 100 percent sure.

The things I read about Seafoam were the liquid that goes into the intake manifold and is supposed to clean carbon / deposits out of the combustion chamber as it burns in there. I have heard transmission fluid does works similarly. No idea about the Seafoam spray stuff.

Jerry suggested using water to do that I think.

Or you can just drive the crap out of it (FSM procedure actually)

I've used Seafoam through the intake before, and I honestly think it works similar to the steam cleaning of just water down at the valves and cylinder.

I've used it many times but I don't think it actually does anything. I'm guessing it's mostly placebo effect.

I like Techron better, but I have used Seafoam in the past (in the fuel) to clean up an audibly sticky/ticking injector. I hit it heavy in the tank and probably 10-15 minutes later the ticking ended.

That reminded me of something my sister told me back in the 80s. Her friend had a Ferrari and it wasn't running well, so he took it to his mechanic. Mechanic asked if he had been driving it hard, the fella said no. Mechanic told him to go out and rev the snot out of it, that's what it was made to do, and him driving it like a grandma was causing the problem.

Makes sense. I had a good mule but he didn't get enough work. Got real broncy, threw me twice. Kind of the same principle in a way, I reckon.

My first wife's sister's husband had a early 80's Toyota with a manual transmission. He drove it the same way. Just putted along, never revving the motor. One day he mentioned to our brother inlaw that it didn't have any get up and go. After he told the brother inlaw how he drove it, the brother inlaw went out and revved the crap out of it. It was amazing the carbon that blew out of the exhaust. It ran a lot better after that.

The ‘ol Italian tune up.

Yep I remember as a kid my dad taking our Chevy out on the interstate to “blow the carbon out” so it ran better. I always made sure I went with him b/c we were going to haul ass 😁
