California Wheres the best places to go near Modesto, California?

Probably up in the foothills near San Andreas or Columbia. I grew up in that area when I was really small and I remember a lot of tails. Not too technical from what I remember, but it'll get you out for a run.
I did a trail run up out of Strawberry off of Hwy 4 many years ago. Should be some forest roads up in Sierras you can explore.
Take 4 from Copperopolis to Angel's camp for a nice drive - then keep on going on 4 if you want to reach some very nice remote high country. Modesto is a typical valley town, not much there.
I'm from the Monterey area, but traveled frequently to Plymouth in the foothills.
