Rolled my Rubicon! Need advice

My jeep was rolled in a similar manner. My grandfather was on Imogene pass when a tire slid off the edge of the trail. He stopped and tried to back it back on the trail but cut the wheel as he did, and the weight shifted over the edge and it went over a couple times before stopping against a tree. He and his girlfriend winched it back onto the trail, he drove back down into telluride and got the hi lift out to pull the fenders off the tires. Then he flat towed it back to Texas behind his RV, pulled the bent soft top frame off and found a used hardtop. The fenders still looked sad when I got it, and the hood, windshield frame and passenger rear quarter still show the evidence of the roll.

I bet you could pull those fenders back to where its driveable, replace the windshield, and go on down the road.

If it was mine, i’m getting an early model used windshield frame that has the drain holes and getting it painted, slapping genright fenders on it and buffing it out and getting a mirror off amazon

The no start issue will not be anything serious-

It was on its side for about 4 hours and 24 hours later I was able to start it up just fine, let it run for a couple minutes and shut it right off.
That's a bummer! I'm surprised no comment on this part yet. Did you pull plugs by chance prior to starting? If it was on it's side that long then started there may have been oil in the cylinders. Someone smarter than me will have a better answer but pretty sure that can do significant damage

He ran it for a few minutes when he right-sided it so sounds like he already rolled those dice and came out good.

I’m confident enough that if I walked up on that deal at the right price that Jeep would be coming home with me if I was in the market-

You could make the Jeep perfect again, or you can turn it into an absolutely stellar build, and avoid a claim on your insurance that’s probably just going to result in higher rates

I can’t imagine what kind of dirt road edges you guys get up there but I’ve always understood there is a ton of rain so the soil must stay soft and I’ve always imagined that your soil is just like black loam.

I hate you’re going through this, but I wouldn’t get too discouraged.

Info for me… If it’s going to happen is it pretty immediate?

Depends on the engine, how the vehicle was rolled, and how it sat after it was righted. I've heard of some that the oil will pool in the manifold so you think you're good once the initial smoke clears, then when you drive it again the puddle sloshes over to the intake ports and hydrolocks later on down the trail.

An oil hydrolock would happen just like a water one, it's not compressible like the air/fuel mixture is. Hydrolock happens when the piston compresses the cylinder the fluid stops it before TDC. Most likely the maximum amount of oil would be in the cylinder just after being righted. Assuming idling for 5 minutes, each cylinder already did ~1,500 compression strokes and moved about 1,000 liters of air. I guess there still is a chance that oil gathered somewhere in the intake track and could migrate later as @Strizzo mentioned.
