Oman4x4 was inspiration for this mod and my others as he was the first to document on his blog almost 20 years ago now many mods people have forgotten today. Luckily his site is still available on the Wayback Machine as well as another lost legend Stu-Offroad. A lot of their info is on older Jeep forums as well but it takes a lot more digging to find. Here is another pic of a TJ with hood vents I had that hadn't been shown here already. Appears to be a generic Posion Spider copy and Ikon Motorsports 20" universal vents.

Might also be these fiberglass Focus ST/RS vents.

I don't know for sure since it isn't my TJ but the closest I could find is the Ikon Motorsport 20" Vents. I believe some other companies sell the same ones under a different brand. https://ikonmotorsports.com/product...-flow-hood-vent-scoop-bonnet-cover-2pc-20x5in

Actually was able to just confirm that these are the ones he used. Stumbled across a review on Amazon from him with another pic before he put the poison spider replica on. 4/5 stars "Not too bad. They look and function great on my 2000 tj"

I've been running the Genright louver for a couple years now, no issues, looks great, and the temp rarely goes above 205. I want to say it was only around $150 then. After you drill the first hole in the hood it's cake.

Can those really make the engine run cooler on the gauge?if it does i could use one.

All I can tell you is what happened to my Jeep... It would over heat climbing up long steep hills... So I serviced the coolant system... no change... it always ran around 210 and would go up from there when it got hot... now it rarely goes above 205 and never above 210 even running the AC in stop and go. The vent was the only change I made.

It's not directly impacting the engine coolant, but one of the known issues with the TJ is that the aerodynamics over and under the hood are odd. We don't have the sort of airflow management modern cars use. If you go back to page 15 and the Oman 4x4 post there is a map of the hot under hood areas and the low pressure over hood areas. The missing bit is the high pressure under hood areas which you'll know exist if you've ever driven your jeep fast and seen the hood float up on the latches. It's often been thought that this pressure build up at highway speeds affects the airflow through the engine compartment and is both why the fan shroud is so important and why multi-row radiators tend not to work well in the TJs when all logic says they should be able to shed more heat.

Jeep designed the radiator and cooling capacity in a way that works really well when everything is working. The problems start when you've got stuff in front of the grill affecting airflow on the highway like a winch, roll bar and extra lights and/or generate more heat behind the grill. Folks who have done superchargers or turbos have almost all had issues managing engine temps on the highway until they add some hood vents and it seems to be enough to bring the system back in balance. I read through a TON of these posts years ago when contemplating the Banks Sidewinder.

If you have engine temp issues and you don't have radiator blockage or significant power adders, I'd try to figure out what's going on in the cooling system starting with checking the cap pressure is holding at 18psi, then probably a very thorough engine coolant flush and inspecting the radiator for rust or mineral build up and if the hoses might be collapsing. If all this stuff isn't sorted, cutting a hole in the hood is just masking an issue.
