4.0 Cylinder Block Interchangeability

Read the first post

I did read the first post and spent some time looking for an answer hence my question. I've not seen a clear answer to my question anywhere: will the newer model computer in my 99 be OK with a 98 block. I'm assuming it will but looking for helpful input please if this assumption is correct.

The answer on block interchange is in the first post. If you are talking about cylinder heads and engine management that is something else. Depending on if you have a distributor or not there are other problems

Can you tell me I have a 98 zj 4.0 runs drives fine just want to swap everything into my 98 tj wrangler with 2.5 is this possible thanks in advance

Just wanted to know if a transmission from behind a 318 will bolt up and work on my 4.o 6 cylinder

I couldn't really decipher well enough for a confirmation and I'm wondering if a 2002 TJ 4.0 engine will be a direct swap/fit into my 2000 TJ 4.0?

What things will need modified? coil packs?

And at the very least is the head from the 2002 4.0 a direct fit for my 2000 4.0?

I have the 0331 head on my 2000 and it's cracked but also something rattling in the engine. I found a 2002 with the TUPY head...just want to make sure it will fit exactly and if the block it's on will also fit directly, in case I need that as well.

You should be good to go. Coil packs are the same for 2000-2006 and OPDA is the same for 2000-2004..

That swap will go fine. 2000-2006 TJ blocks are all the same.

The problem with people mixing and matching around 97-99, 2000-2001, and 2000-2006 is that they source engines/blocks from XJs. XJs had all new stuff in 2000-2001 as far as the 0331 head, distributorless ignition, new intake manifold and such went, but they kept the old block and old accessories. So because the XJ 2000-2001 engine appeared to be updated (it looks new up top due to the 2000 model year changes), people assume it's the same new block as the 2000+ TJ...it is not. Just have to keep that straight is all.

I'm not sure if my first post went through but I was asking if a 2002 TJ 4.0 will directly fit into my 2000 TJ that has a 4.0? Any modifications needed at all?

And/Or if I find that the rattle noise in my engine is fixable, will just the head from the 2002 fit directly onto my 2000 block without modifications? My head is cracked (pretty sure) but the 2002 motor I'm looking at has the upgraded 2002 TUPY head so that will be the least I do. If my block has major internal damage then I'm wanting to use the 2002 block and just leave the TUPY head on it sine it's already mounted. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for clarifying guys.
