Is this a double cardan u-joint?

Thanks yall for the input… the strap bolts are all rusted…. I’m gonna have to order the parts from the internet… any body have the part numbers I’m gonna need? I’m gonna go ahead and just rebuild the whole thing while I got it apart… I think that’d be best…
I got some penetrating stuff to go ahead and start spraying stuff ahead of time and spray it every day till my parts come in….
I know it’s not gonna be easy lol I can handle it… may take me longer than more experienced people but I’ll get it lol
Thanks again yall!

When you responded that you have some penetrating stuff; what kind of penetrating stuff are you using ?
Some (Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster, Mouse Milk) are better than others, but when all else fails... try mixing one part ATF to one part Acetone.
Years ago in the USN one of the older sailers turned me on to this mixture.
The ATF/Acetone mixture will creep into areas to free up rusted parts better than anything else I have used other than applying heat to the area.

I got at hell-mart (the big W store) see pic plz…

When can I get acetone…? Hardware store maybe 🤔

And I very much appreciate your suggestion 😊

There’s some very helpful people on this forum and I’m so very thankful!!

If you have a lot of rust on those bolt threads; that Walmart special may not be enough to penetrate the rust.
Acetone can usually be purchased in the paint department of HomeDepot, Lowe’s, most hardware stores and even Walmart.

Thank you 🙏🏼 and I think these skid bolts are gonna b a pain lol but I did invest in some cutting wheels just in case I gotta get rough with them lol

Would yall happen to know the size bolt I’m gonna need in case I have to drill thru to the top side of the frame to reattach the skid… I’m thinking they gonna have to be about 6 1/4 inches long but not sure about the size around..

This jeep…. Gonna make a man of this gal yet LOL 😆

Thank you so much 😊 I’m pretty sure I found what I need…. Actually pretty reasonable on the price too… I’m glad yall recommended the site to me…

And I just noticed the kit is currently not available…..

That is the greaseable kit, pretty sure your factory set is sealed. My 06 was.

I’m having trouble finding the parts as a kit.
Would yall happen to know the individual part number of each part…. The u joints and the ball centering kit… I’d like to get it all with grease fittings…

I got the parts ordered… they are supposed to be in Tuesday….

I also talk to a friend of mine that’s going to help me….

I’m sure I can do it myself… but on occasion I do ask a person for help lol I know I can trust him 100% and i know he knows what he’s doing. He’s worked on cars his whole life and has owned countless jeeps..

so me and him are going to tackle my Cardan joint that’s on my Nelly…

I’ll update after it’s done 😊

Thanks again to all of yall for the advice and the help 😁 it’s very much appreciated!!!!

The sticker on my DS has the number P52098377AE Can anybody confirm that the measurement of the shaft is 41 inches?? A friend of mine might have a DS but I need to confirm the measurement… from what I have seen it’s 41 inches, is that right?

Also… can any body tell me what kind of bolts (size wise) go back by the cardan U joint? I want to get new ones just in case the ones of my jeep break…

So I’m having trouble getting the bolts broke loose on the part that connects to the flange on the transfer case…

The hole in the skid plate don’t exactly line up with where the bolts are… I put an 8mm 6 point wrench on it and it was too big so I put a 12 point 5/16 on it and it’s not a very long wrench and I couldn’t exactly get any kind of cheater pipe on it to get some leverage on it, plus I was scared if I did I would break that little wrench and/or bolt(s)….

I did use an impact and get the skid bolts loose. But I’m scared I’m gonna mess more things up if I try to take it down. Which I know I’ll have to do with a jack plus prop up the transmission too and I’m just scared to do it. First I know that skid is gonna be heavy and being a gal I don’t have big muscles lol it’s just very intimidating.

So I have a couple other things that I may try…

Do yall think a swivel head ratchet would get in there and maybe I could break the bolts loose that way…

OR…. If not, I wonder if I could weld a couple wrenches together (making it longer and stronger)….

I’m just seriously scared to drop the skid. Plus I’m gonna be outside on the ground and it’s pretty chilly in KY right now and I’m not a fan of the cold…

I mean if I have to then I have to but I’m gonna do my best to not have to…

And I don’t really have anybody to help me and I’m not taking it to a shop… so that pretty well leaves me….

Any suggestions or ideas?

I very much appreciate any suggestions yall could send my way….

I’m not gonna be defeated by my jeep…. I’m bout to the dam and determined point with this job…. I’ll get it… just may take me longer than somebody with more experience lol but I’m gonna get it!!!!!

Thanks yall for being kind it means a lot…

It's a 5/16 bolt. Get a 6 pt 5/16.

I use a 1/4 breaker bar if I can't get it with the 1/4 ratchet.

I think there might be room for a 3/8 ratchet if it's not a long one, but not sure.

I think some folks just take out the bolts on that side of the skid and loosen the other side, but I've never done it that way.

Thank you so much!!! I rebuilt the cardan u joint myself…. I put it back in yesterday… to take the whole drive shaft out and put it back in I had to drop the skid plate, which I absolutely didn’t want to do but had to….

Well I drove it after I got the front DS in and something just ain’t right…. It’s still making a couple diff noises like it could be both u joints on the front DS… and a slight vibration… the transmission mount is in very bad shape… I’ll post a pic of it… and also I just wonder if maybe I got the front yoke u joints on wrong (not sure if it matters weather it’s in one way or another - I had it marked but my marks disappeared 🤦🏼‍♀️) I’m gonna check to be sure the front u joints are seated right….

Before I even started on this job I noticed that one of the bolts was broke on the trans mount….

Keep in mind this was my first time rebuilding a cardan u joint… but I done it like all the videos I watched…. It was some what of a pain cuz of that spring in the centering yoke in between the two u joints…. It wasn’t easy…

That centering yoke made bolting it back to the transfer case flange a big time pain… I thought it wouldn’t be that bad to put back in and bolt back up…

I got the u joints that can be greased…. I just wonder if maybe I have the grease fitting turn the wrong way….

Or maybe my angle of my drive shaft is not right…

Idk but I’ve got so many theories of what could be wrong…

I just replaced the u joints on the rear drive shaft a couple weeks ago and they been fine…

Any advice would be very much appreciated!!! Y’all have been a big help to me…. I appreciate yall very much!!
