We took our big family excursion out to the San Juan’s early this month. Our family has grown so I brought the LJ and had to rent 3 JLUR locally. It was pretty cool having a convoy of four.
We had two days planned with one night of camping near Silverton in between. However, our plans were disrupted due to a complete highway closure the first day. A Honda Civic went off the edge and two of three people inside lost their lives. We needed to get south from Ouray, but my usual entry point, Corkscrew Gulch, was inaccessible. So we had a family meeting and decided to take Mineral Creek, which is a harder trail than I meant to bring the family on, but everybody did great.
