Half doors are hard to find

I finally got half doors after after 2 years of looking. Came across a few that were in great shape and the right color but no way could i justify the price they were asking for. I'm getting ready to paint the inner to match. Any tips that worked for you are appreciated.

Got nothing for you. Sorry.
I had mine professionally dyed. After the skins are thoroughly cleaned they are gently warmed and the dye is applied. Apparently the dye soaks into the door skin.

It's incredibly durable. I have hit them with boots, sneakers, my watch, the pit zippers on my rain jacket, packages... they all look as good as when I had them done. Can't remember with any clarity because it was a while back but I think I paid a few hundred for the pair. I had the doors painted at the same time... it's a blur.

Place an add on Facebook and Craigslist. It will suprise you how many calls you will get. I have an 01 and an 2003. both came with full doors. A gentleman in my town called, and get this....... he traded his 03 for an new pickup and the dealer did not want his like new half doors and perfect black soft top. he offered me his half doors door surrounds and soft top for $400. I would have hated to pay the speeding ticket for how fast i drove to go get them. The doors had been installed one time. Gave the same amount for a set for my 2001 with a rear bumper. they were pretty darn good

WOW. saving that link. this is going to help with my restoration big time. thanks

Couple of additional notes on this. JL Fab gets their parts from a place nearby in Virginia called Key Parts. You can purchase the same parts directly from Key for even less. You can purchase directly from Key on their website or via Ebay.

However, I did this just recently (via Ebay through Key Parts) and ran into an issue that I think bears mention to the community. If you buy these half door shells (or some other body part), do yourself a favor and only buy those marked as Jeep/Mopar official licensed products (if possible).

When they arrive, if the carton isn't marked as such, file a claim and return the item. The part number will likely be correct on the box, but the part inside is a lesser part if it is not the licensed product. Usually you'd think it's probably just a sticker and a label, a gimmick, maybe to charge more. Truth, it IS actually a better part, even if the vendor, part number and country of origin are the same. The box should note it and the actual part should have a holographic Jeep/Mopar sticker attached as well.

As an example, I noted across the top of the door shell that the unlicensed part had HALF the number of spot welds compared to the licensed or original door. That's going to make a difference in the durability and longevity of the part. As well, I'm convinced the metal was slightly thinner and many of the stampings making up the door shell assembly weren't as precisely formed on closer inspection.

Caveat emptor, brothers and sisters.

I can attest to the cost of half doors. I spent the better part of 2 years looking. Prices ranged from +$2K down to a couple hundred. Condition didn't matter, it just seems to be what the seller thinks they can get.
I would think with the number of Jeeps being parted out, there would be a surplus of half doors....
I finally found a set on FB market place for $650, flame red with aftermarket uppers.
They are in really good condition, just a couple of minor scratches. I'm just happy the search is over!
I feel really bad for the OP on this. Being in Hawaii really adds to their frustration levels with the parts market.
