Officially have owned my 2005 for two weeks now. Today I installed a new Sony radio (original one wasn’t working well, changed the transmission fluid to MTL 75w80, and now I’m chasing why my blower motor resistor is busted. Hoping to have everything worked out for the winter time

Yeah, I’ll wheel Moab in June and August but July is a “no” for me. I hate it when the radiator explodes.

When got mine the PO said the heater smelled like it was burning. Sure enough the resistor was trying to ignite pine needles that had worked their way through.

When I replaced the resistor I plugged it in but left it dangling. Then I turned on the blower and TONS of crap came through the opening where the resistor goes. 10/10 would recommend.

My resistor seems to crap the bed every few years. It's annoying, only having the high fan speed, or almost nothing.

I've looked at my log book. I typically have about three week windows of time after fixing something where I think everything is working right. Then something goes wrong.

Got this super important task completed yesterday.

Is it a necessary part? Absolutely not. But when I saw @sunnysideup_lj had some for sale, I couldn't resist getting one. Something about how simple and clean it is just does it for my engineer brain!!

IIRC, you can't bring a left hand drive to AU but you can bring a RH to the US. I'm thinking renting would be much cheaper tho!

I enjoyed the 4WD 24-7 guys Moab videos. It will be interesting to see if you agree with their thoughts on Moab.

I'm not too sure as I'm not in AU...I'm in NZ..... I could rent 3 jeeps for a month and still be cheaper than bringing mine over so that aint gonna happen.
I'm gonna have to see what the prices are like when I get there.( I wonder if they do Hobbit discounts? haha )...Our exchange rate to the USD sucks

I’ve read this is a thing too… apparently if your blower motor is pulling like 20+ amps you’re going to keep burning up the resistor? I took an amp reading of my stock one and it’s at 13.2 amps. I think that’s within a healthy range

Its my un-informed opinion that the resistor pack is right at the edge of what's needed - much like other electrical items on these Jeeps. Not enough allowed tolerance.

Going through photos from last week’s Moab trip, I found a pic that matched one from the previous year. Kinda neat to see how different the rig is… Rubi44s on 35s then to HP60/13bolt on 41.5s (and the grillwork)

Got started on replacing the SYE last night after being out of town for over a week. Jacked up on stands, dropped skid, and drained case. Off work tomorrow and hoping to split the case and replace the SYE kit to get this thing back on the road for next week's forum meetup.
