I think the PCM is acting up

2005 Wrangler 6 cylinder manual transmission. One day I'm driving and I get the "bad camshaft position sensor" CEL. If I turn the engine off and restart it, it will drive fine. Another time: "bad crankshaft position sensor". Same thing, car drives fine after restart. And a couple of days ago, this: I'm driving, then suddenly the engine stutters (but keeps running), and all the gauges on the instrument cluster are dead. I pull over, turn the engine off, restart it, and the gauges are fine and the car runs fine. This last incident gave me two codes: U0155 (lost communication with instrument cluster) and P0335 (bad crankshaft position sensor). I already replaced the crankshaft sensor so I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with it. Aside from ordering a Wranglerfix PCM, I don't know what to do. It seems that if I took the Jeep to a shop to run diagnostics, it would be a waste of time and money as they would say "everything checks out fine". These hiccups are sporadic. What say you? Thanks in advance.

Let’s rub the lamp and see what @Wranglerfix thinks.

I would disconnect pcm connectors and blow out looking for any moisture, dielectric grease then reinstall. I would also remove, clean and tighten the grounds on the right side of the engine block.

He thinks that (a) the OP can't predict the future so he has no way of knowing what the diagnostics at a shop would be. (b) PCM problems do not go away and resolve themselves even sporadically. (c) sporadic issues point to ground issues (pointed out above) loose wire issues, and chafing/rubbing/harness issues.

And finally, (d) do as everyone says, get in touch and have a chat. If nothing else, you might get a good recommendation for what beverage goes well with fried gator nuggets.

It's the PCM. It's glitching off when you lose the gauges and because it's a MT, it restarts itself.

My 06 MT did the same thing. Wranglerfix PCM fixed it.

If you have the OEM OPDA, you may issues there as well. I didn't have any cam/crank sensor codes. Check the wiring that goes over the dipstick as well.

Exactly. Clean and retighten, every connection coming and going to the pcm. Dielectric grease is your friend

What’s the intended purpose of dialectic grease?

To lubricate, seal, and insulate electrical housings and coverings. It is not used on the conductors, because it is an insulator.

If you want to grease a conductor contact and have it conduct electricity, use this instead. Carefully and judiciously, because it conducts electricity.
