Turns out it was not a belt squeak

It took me forever to find the squeak I was having, which turned out to also be the harmonic balancer. I also thought it was a belt, pulley bearing. Mine didn’t come apart though.

Is there a way to check these?
Like pull the belt and see if the HB can be moved in and out by hand?

You could do that. Just put it in gear and pull the parking brake. It would spin on the deteriorated rubber. If the balancer is 20+ years old, probably a good chance it's not good. I needed a Harmonic Balancer Puller and Installer Tool to get the new one on. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DJKX35TJ?tag=wranglerorg-20

Man, I recently went through the same thing. Replaced every moving part of the accessory belt path, and finally figured out it was the HB out on a trail when it failed completely. Got it off the trail and waited over 4 hours for a tow truck to get it home, but it could have failed in way worse places.

I replaced mine last year when I did the timing chain on my '98. 160k-ish miles, the balancer looked okay from initial inspection, but upon removing it I found a bunch of cracks in the rubber.

Mine walked out towards the radiator. Didn’t notice it initially, until I seen a picture of a new one online. The inner and outer should be pretty flush.

Since I started hearing/reading about this issue a few years ago, I've gone and put paint marks on all of mine, that way I can quickly see if they have rotated whenever I want to look.

I did that with the new one.

So Ive had a belt squeak for a few weeks, I checked my idler pulleys and such and all seemed 100%. The other day I was talking to a friend about the belt squeak and we opened the hood, we could see the balancer pulley doing the hula which i assume was causing the squeak, either way I ordered one and will replace it this week. Hopefully a dampener and belt solve it, if not it needed to be changed anyway. 120K

This forum is great. I had no idea these could fail. Mine has a few cracks in the rubber but otherwise looks good. No noises.

Maybe I’ll replace it next year for the Jeep’s 20th anniversary.
