Do-anything LJ build advice

Did friction overheat and warp the block? I'm very curious about the cam bearings woes

The machinist who put my short block together for me was pleasantly surprised my mains were straight. I guess that applies to cam bores too?

I think the bearings died to debris from the piston clearancing itself. But I’ll be triple-checking the cam fitment when I reassemble.

In better news, I got 1 of 2 Flux Offroad rocker guards installed!

Been quiet for a bit while the dust settled. New machinist found that all cylinder bores were undersized, out-of-round, AND tapered. 🤦‍♂️

They were able to fix it, but had to take the cylinders 1.5 thou over nominal to do it. I’m planning to get the pistons Line2Line coated, so that’s fine.

I've had my bad experiences with machine shops....
Glad you're getting it figured out.

Can anyone confirm that this is just sheet metal that I could drill through and install a grommet for a GMRS antenna cable?

Update: yes, you can add run an antenna cable into the cab through that point, but I do not recommend it unless the dashboard is getting removed. The install requires drilling through 2 layers of sheet metal 1” apart (too far for Rotabroach), and the inside surface is very difficult to reach, behind the DS speaker and under the heater duct. There’s also a convenient dead volume to drop tools in, and it’s a bitch to get them out. Ask me how I know 🤣

Also installed a B&M Sport shifter this week. It seems overpriced for what it is, but if it performs as advertised it’s worth it. First impression: shifting feels crisper, and the short throw will keep my knuckles out of the dash and my passenger’s lap. Seems good so far. Engine is still on hold for parts.

Racetec took their time milling my pistons. Hopefully you won't need to wait too long

Also Racetec. Russ is pulling his hair out, he’s waiting on 15 sets, and I think this is week 8. It’s the 3rd week Racetec has told me, “it will ship late this week or early next.” 🤦‍♂️

RaceTec claims the piston will ship today. I’ll believe them when it arrives by Friday.

I did install some grill screens today. Hopefully will keep leaves and shit from piling up in front of the radiator.

SHE LIVES AGAIN!!!!

Running well now, and she has earned her new decals.

Had serious overheating issue on day 1 with the electric Taurus fan I’ve been running for years. Swapped back to the factory fan, and hasn’t gone past the 0 in 210 since. Apparently, Chrysler’s engineers knew how to design a cooling system. 🤷‍♂️🤣

I have scheduled FRP tuning for the second week of August; I’m looking forward to seeing what a custom tune does.
