What did you do to your other vehicle today?

My daughter's car is getting a water pump. Stupid Ford engineers used a funky pulley that needs a "special" puller that goes for about $170 instead of a regular pulley that uses the tool everyone already has. I followed the instructions from a YouTube video to pull it, but it got warped, so not I have to order a new pulley. Still cheaper than to tool though and WAY cheaper than paying someone to do it.

Doing this did give me an excuse to pick up a new tool though. Anyone ever used one of the Vacuum coolant fillers? Supposed to eliminate all air from the cooling system while filling it. Really slick for any cars that have a tendency to keep air pockets and eliminates the bleeding process (hose squeezing) you have to do on almost all cars.

what model and year, I had a 14 exploder and the water pump is internal. So if it leaks it fill the crankcase with antifreeze, a real bitch to replace.

2012 3.0L actually not too hard except for the stupid pulley. pull the airbox, the battery and the camshaft pulley, then just remove 5 hoses and extract 5 bolts that hold it to the block. Was a 2 hours job until I bent the pulley. Still only a 3 hour job, but 3 days to get the new pulley from Ford.

I heard the 3.5L in the sport model is an engine out repair. Dodged that bullet.

The passenger side HID bulb went out a few months ago. I replaced both sides today.

Replace bulbs. Simple!

The only upside is this is the first replacement since we bought this new in 2018. Hopefully it’ll be at least 5 more years before I have to do this again.

I feel your pain... I had to do them on my 2015 Charger at about 60k. Yes, I did both even though only one was out. And just to kick you when you are down, the HID bulbs are almost $300 each.....

Ouch! Does yours use the D3S bulbs? I got a pair for $187.

I’m glad I did both. The non-operational bulb had some whiteish, granular coating covering the entire capsule. The operational bulb had the same stuff but on a smaller area so it was likely on the way out.

I had a ford ranger like that. 3 different motors,5 transmissions,2 rear axles and she is up over 400k and still going too! 🤣

Honestly we got this truck in trade, I couldn't tell you if the engine is original or not, I doubt it is, we have put roughly 50,000 miles on it and it runs good, cats were deleted when we got it so the bell will annoy you.

I had a 97 F150 XL with the 4.2 for a shop truck and I hated it. It was a hand me down from a salesman(Field Service guys got shit on when it came to vehicles), replacing my 95 XLT with the 5.0. The 97 still made 250K when I watched the taillights going away and thinking it was now someone else's problem.

Got it running and drove it down the road:

Some may recall, but this was my dads truck that he bought new in '84. I bought it off him some years ago and he's holding onto it until I have a spot to work on it. This has been sitting out behind the horse shed for the last 8 years. We put a new battery in, filled it with fresh gas, changed the oil and poured some starting fluid in the carb. After a few tries it fired right up. I took it down the road and it has no power steering, brakes work however very poorly, the clutch takes a bit to engage, the choke gets stuck and a wire that leads to something underneath the trans began to melt.

We finally made space in his garage and got it parked inside. He's going to start stripping the interior soon.

Not a vehicle, but an engine. Adjusted the valves, changed the oil/filter in the standby generator. 3 of the valves were a bit tight, the 4th was loose. The 4th was, of course, the PITA. It was slightly harder to get at than the others, and it just kicked my ass for longer than I liked. Adjust, tighten jam nut - crap, too loose. Adjust, tighten jam nut - crap, too tight. Finally got the bastud right, got it put back together and ran a full load test.

Not a job with much brain damage but I learned that my 3 ton HF floor jack at full extension will not get the tires off the ground. Sawzall and a scrap piece of 4x4 to the rescue. And, the 5'6' piece of pipe from a chain link fence that I keep in the garage will be forever known as the Ford Torque Enhancer. I know that being close to 70 and a skinny ass on top of it, the 'grunt' ain't what it used to be.

The carb I rebuilt for the 1934 Packard woke it up today. The guy is ecstatic about it.
