ok so this is prob a dumb question but i replaced all my wipers. passenger side front doesnt contact the window on the top 1/3 of the blade (13" blades as per spec) is it safe to assume i just need a new wiper arm? they are 20 years old.

Did you replace the wiper inserts, the wiper blades, or the arms?

Make sure the blade is straight so it can make windshield contact across its length.

The arm shouldn't matter too much since there's a pivot at the blade attachment area, so the blade should be able to move to stay in contact with the windshield. But if the arm is bent, I'd think you could bend it back so the blade makes contact.

i replaced the wiper blades, arms are factory. drivers is fine passenger misses top 1/3 of the stroke.

im going to try to take it off, i think its just very old spring thats causing this. is the spring not there to keep the tension on it so it stays pressed against the window?

Check the tab that holds the metal arm on the splined section. Pop the blades up like a snow storm I coming and then push the tab towards the spline then push the arms back down. If that tab isn’t pushed in all the way the tension on the arm isn’t as strong.

... passenger side front doesnt contact the window on the top 1/3 of the blade ...

Was this occurring with the old wiper blades? If this started with the replacements, double check that the little retainer slide lock is fully seated at the stud where the arm connects. There is a small stop that prevents the arm from fully touching the windshield when the retainer slide is open.

OK so. on mine that tab was on the top of the wiper arm not the bottom like yours. i pushed it out and back in again, as tight as i could get it. wiper still will not contact the top 1/3 of the windshield. i believe this means i need new arms? or should I buy a whole new linkage and arms?

Post a picture.

I can't think of any reason an entirely new linkage is necessary. The problem is above that.

Both arm have the tab on the top?

Could you have the wrong arms on there since you mentioned it’s been an issue for a while.

Can you post a couple pictures of them? Maybe a shot with the whole windshield visible and another with a closeup of one entire arm?

dont mind my rusty window frame. bought the jeep from alberta. have a shop full of parts to restore. but have to daily drive until wife is done nursing school and i get back into a merc.

After looking at mine, the tabs are on the top too. I guess o never really paid attention to that. Yours are parked on the windshield lower than mine. I don’t know it that would cause your issues though.

i think ill just install the replacements, and make sure they sit at the right height. today i could only get a strip in the middle of the passenger wiper that would clear the window. not ideal in a rain forest.

A strip in the middle? I can't see how a wiper arm issue would cause contact only in the middle of a wiper blade. Are you certain the blades are straight, and the inserts are not binding in the blade's frame?

yep. even had a tech at the shop look at it. wiper blade will not contact the whole window.

ive bought another set of blades, ill try tho this evening while waiting on the arms.

one thing i do notice is there is zero tension on the arms at all. like the springs arent doing anything. 20 yeras old and rusty..im sure they are past their time.

I replaced the arms on my YJ just because I caught a deal on some Dormans. I was surprised at how much more pressure the new ones put on the wipers than the originals.

If you have no pressure now, it's going to make a lot of difference.

Yep little to no pressure at all. i got two dormans for $80 cad
