What's wrong with the cheap China bumpers?

One of these or one like it and put your OEM bumper on, or cut it down some and ready to go inexpensive.

That's kind of what I did on the front. I removed all the rubber and plastic and cut mine down as a temporary solution until I found a bumper I wanted. 20 years later, it's still there. 😁

Smitty Built might be Chinese made but they're good enough to kill a TJ. And the JK it was mounted on. It's been moved over to another JKU, only slightly tweaked and the coating is holding up fine.

What the hell were you doing? U-turn without clearing traffic? I would think you were at fault.

Nope. In the video you were in process of the u-turn before the strike. Granted there was a bunch going on prior, but the strike was your fault.
I know you kicked ass and fixed it, which I respect.
That said, I would wheel with you anytime.

Back to topic, I put EAG chinese bumpers on my jeep. They have taken plenty of rock hits and are still fine. Just a little spray paint when I scuff them too much and they look fine.
Do I expect them to last? No, but they only cost two tanks of gas.

Well, no. If you get hit from behind, it’s generally the fault of the person coming up behind you. You can slam on your brakes (or slow to make a u-turn…) for no reason at all, and if the person coming up behind you has not left enough room to stop, it’s generally their fault.

I’ll add as well, Yes the more expensive bumpers are better in every way. For the front the best as mentioned is flux. Its the lightest bumper (offroad and on road you will notice this over a even stubby steel bumper), best clearance with the adjustable winch deck, and corners to protect a swayloc or just the most hit spot on a bumper. Add that with some @sunnysideup_lj or flux soft shackle mounts and you have amazing recovery points as well.
Cheap bumpers weight a lot, never have good coatings so they rust fast, and use cheap thin steel so they bend or rip when hit or when using the recovery points. This also goes for the rear with a large emphasis on the Chinese bumpers with a hitch because they won’t even hold a tray with a cooler on it. I say that bc I tried re welding a cheap bumper 5 times adding more and more steel till I just gave up and got a nice one. I got a motobilt with hitch rear and a crusher front stubby. The rear is great because I have abused the hitch on it and it still is strong as can be. Though I will be swapping this as I don’t use the hitch anymore and want to get rid of the steel weight. The front crusher motobilt I got was fine strength wise but was 40lb heavier than the flux option. As a 4cyl, weight is important and I was reminded how much 40lb off the front of the jeep can make a big difference in feel.

They just don’t look good. Had one. Sold it and bought an American made that looked like good quality paint and build.
Bottom line for me was they look like cheap “couldn’t afford a nice one” but I wanna be cool too bumper. Just my opinion.

China bumper . . . probably buzzed together by a couple of 9yr. olds, paid $6.- per day.
