What spare tire mounting bracket are you using with the MORryde kit?

Just ordered the full MORryde tailgate reinforcement kit but also need to get the actual spare tire mounting bracket/carrier.
What carrier are you guys using along with the MORryde (or old Exogate)?
Seems like just the OE is often recommended but then @Jerry Bransford always pops up and says his OE cracked within a short period of time carrying a 33” spare.
Did he just get unlucky?

Also wondering will my 33” tire clear my bumper with the OE mount or will I need to have it modified to raise it?
Thanks!

Jerry didn't prevent the spare tire from bouncing. Do that and the factory tire mount will survive.

I do believe he said that he extended the snubbers.

I know the things he said. The bottom line is that the more the bouncing is reduced, the slower the metal will fatigue, and the lifespan of the components will be increased.

Yup just some kind of spare support step on the bumper was my original plan before I decided to splurge on the MORryde.
So does everyone still have something like that in addition to the MORryde when using the OE carrier?

Prevent the bouncing, whatever form that takes. Most who use the Exogate are not making little support steps.

Quit getting hung up on whatever Jerry thought was happening to his.

I didn’t add any extra support on mine. But, if I was bouncing around off road a bunch I would add one. Extra support is good.

MORryde on stock carrier with 33s and extended snubbers, nice and tight. If you have access to a 3d printer check out the 3d printing thread and you can make some nice ones.

I have the Rugged Ridge bracket that is straight. I had to drill new mounting holes in the bracket to move it down to fit in the MORryde. It works great, keeps the tire lower out of the rear window, and holds it close to the tub.

I also had snubber extensions 3D printed that had the same profile as the snubbers. The tire doesn't move.

Same. I like that the stock carrier is closer to the tub than many after market carriers so I did not have to space the snubbers out that much. Also fit the Moryde without needing to use the offset brackets like some aftermarket’s require.

What size tires are you running? If 33s did the spare clear the bumper?

With the MORryde, the stock carrier will clear 33's. The carrier bolts back into the OEM position, just 1/4" further away from the tailgate.

I have 35x12.5 on the stock carrier on the morryde. I extended the snubbers and added a drop step bumper so I could drop the height of the spare.

No issues with the stock carrier at all.
