I got the lower nut off but I had to use a breaker bar.. very tight on there. I can get a ratcheting wrench on the top one, just, but I have no leverage to move it. I am not able to remove the transfer case skid plate because all of my bolts are totally rusted/done, so I have to do this as is. Are there any tips and tricks (been soaking in Kroil, tried heat, etc), to get some leverage down there? I just need to break it free.

I even tried removing the shift lever to get a view from the top but all of my bolts are so rusted there, they just spin. Really frustrated over here! :)

I feel your pain, I got mine from the topside after removing the console and floor pan but I had all that out for a clutch anyway. Is there room to get a socket on a wobble and a long extension? If your skid plate is off you can lower things a bit.

no, I cant get a ratchet on there at all, there is barely room for the socket. I dont see how people were getting ratchets on there. as far as I can tell, ratcheting wrench is the best option.. I just cant get any balls on it. I cant drop my skid plate.. that this is permanent.

Ok I didn't realize you couldn't remove your skid plate, in your post you said you couldn't remove your transfer case. The floor pan may be your only option and if the screws are spinning on that you can always cut off the heads and find another way to put everything back. One of mine spun out and I had to use a nut and bolt in that hole.

ah, I forgot to write skid plate after transfer case, I fixed it. Perhaps I can drill out the 4wd lever and then put it back with rivets or something.. decent idea. That may give me enough room to work.. at least I'll be able to see it.

I was also wondering if I could hook a ratchet strap on the end of the wrench somehow.. Definitely a little sketch though!

Put a jack under the transfer case and take some of the weight off the bolt.

Ah, I dont need to remove the case, just that one top nut.. or maybe you meant to get the skid plate off? Yah thats not happening.

I also just went in from the top. Pulling the console is easy. It makes that top nut a breeze and make installing the Savvy shifter easier to.

I had a going going gone clutch on my 97. Started with trying to pull the skid plate and every single bolt was seized. I worked on it for a week and ended up cutting through the 1" square tube that was being used to drop the skid plate for the POS Procomp lift that was on the Jeep.

Once that was cut out I was able to get a pipe wrench on the bolt stubs and drilled out and replaced all the riv nuts with Black Magic Brakes set and tool.

I did pull my transfer case...I did a SYE instead of replacing the spacer. Cable shifter when I realized the factory one was completely hashed.

Top E torx bolt on the AX-15 was a PIA and had to be ground off.

Sounds like you've got the bolts off and are on your way...

06LJ, I'm hoping I can get to it with just the 4wd lever side off.
