What did you do to your TJ today?

Did you do the back flush with the Prestone kit?

* Drained the coolant
* Filled with Prestone and distilled
* Kept it in there for 2 days
* Drained the Prestone
* Did a distilled flush
* Filled with Thermocure and distilled
* Kept it in there for 8 days and ran it for at least 20 minutes a day
* Drained the Thermocure
* Removed the t-stat
* Ran a garden hose through the cooling system for about 30 minutes
* Ran the engine with the garden hose through the cooling system for 30 minutes
* Drained the engine block
* Did 10 distilled flushes
* Put in the t-stat
* Filled with coolant

Does "ran the engine with the garden hose..." mean the Prestone kit?

Finally got around to replacing my exhaust manifold. Best tip I got was to start the bottom 4 bolts before installing the intake. You need to tilt the intake back about 10-15 degrees and slide it in then pull the bottom back to get it to go over the pins and behind the washers, but it’s better than trying to start the bolts in holes you can’t see.

it wasn’t really as bad as I thought it was going to be. About 4.5 hrs start to finish with a few smoke breaks.

My cooling system flush is done...for now.

I got a 50/50 mix of G05 in there last night and I'm considering this done and crossed off the checklist. I ran it in my garage for a good 20+ minutes to burp out all of the air in the system and the temp held right at 205ish with the AC on. I might revisit this in a year or if there are other issues. If I have to do this again, I'll do a Prestone flush, Thermocure flush, and then a second Thermocure flush.

I still have the original coolant when I first drained it back in July. This gives an indication of how bad the cooling system was when I first started this. That is just rust and crap at the bottom of that jug.

When I ran through 10 distilled water flushes yesterday, here is the color of all 10 of them.

Here's a closer look at the 1st flush (left) and the 10th flush (right).

And finally, here is a look at the inside of the block right before I put the t-stat and t-stat housing back on. This is after a 2 day Prestone flush, an 8 day Thermocure flush, a thorough hour long flush with tap water, and then 10 distilled water flushes.

It doesn't look perfect in there, but I'm just done with this for now.

Dude, that's a thousand times better than your first jug!

I remember seeing that first shot you posted of your radiator under the cap, and I was cringing at how bad it was. You've done some serious work to that cooling system. Good on you for sticking with it.

Thanks. It has been a ton of work and I'm feeling pretty good that this is done now. I feel comfortable with driving it for longer distances now.

Do you mean this pic?

I'd say you have done as much as you possibly can with this system. The only way to get it perfect would be to remove the engine, completely disassemble it and have it hot tanked.

New carpet and heat shield complete.

Used the cheaper Seatz carpet since I was going with the heat shield underneath. Got out cheap on the shielding buying it uncut off eBay, too.

The only thing about the Seatz carpet I don't like is the fit over the rear fender wells. I may get some extra heavy duty double-stick tape and see if I can make it a little better.

I couldn't get the rear seat rail bolts to budge so I ended up cutting around them.
