Looks like a Cooper's hawk . . . . it's in the Accipiter group of birds of prey. Long tail, rounded wing tips, birds of this group are ferocious bird killers. Buddy hunts with his Goshawks
This was a couple years ago. Might’ve been hunting frogs in the drained pool. There were 3 or more flying around the neighborhood in the spring this year.
I love predatory birds. Of course, if one comes after me, I might change my mind. This little guy has been living around here for a few years now. Right after I snapped this pic he dropped down and grabbed something. He flopped around on the ground with it for probably 30 seconds and then carried it off.
Got to see a Coopers try to take down a squadron of homing pigeons the other day on the way to work

We have a pair of Northern Harriers winter in the area. They not only have excellent eyesight, but great hearing as well. I got this lucky shot through my living room window. He was flying into a stiff wind and was almost stationary.
