Wheel Net Trailer Tie-Down (No Cross The Straps Controversy)

Pay attention to parking lots as you pass them. Many different ways to tie down autos.

Where did you see those? Would love to get custom wheel net from Mack's but they want $220 each..... Who else would have nets big enough for 37's?

I talked with Mac's about the nets and they told me they had to be very specifically sized to my wheels and that leads to potential problems if things change.

I've been using through the wheel straps for several years and never had one loosen up yet, they are attached to D rings on the trailer. I have tried the basket type also, while they worked well I still prefer through the wheel type. I have protective sleeves made from fire hose that protect them from chaffing on the wheel.

Never heard of them, nice that they are made in Iowa and not overseas.

They were great to work with - Ed walked me thru how to do all of the measurements and handled the order. They made a mistake on the cross straps and immediately produced the correct ones sent out FedEx for no charge (I was headed out on a Jeep trip and needed them in 4 days).

He also explained a little of the physics behind why they are such a good option - not only are the tires tied down to the trailer but the friction between the tire and trailer provides incredible holding power to control movement. The only thing to watch for is a tire loosing inflation - I check them at every stop. The strap over the top of the tire will keep it from sliding off the tire, but it could loosen up.

UPDATE - here is what I ended up with. Purchased from US Cargo Control - They made them custom from my measurements. They were the best price and the customer service and strap quality was top notch - Call and talk to ED DURAN.

That looks more secure than anything I have seen. Hell Uhaul, who has to worry about lawsuits only has straps for front tires and simply a safety chain that cant even really be tightened for the rear.

Nothing against US Cargo, but that same theory also applies to most methods of tying a rig down. In fact, it is almost impossible not to increase the friction between the tire and trailer deck by strapping it down.

And the same is also true for practically every other method of strapping down a rig to a trailer. They all depend on tire inflation being reasonably constant.
