So as the title says…I ran some errands today and when I shut off my Jeep and removed the key, it all of a sudden started up and then shut off within a few seconds.
WTF!
First time it’s happened in the couple months I’ve had it.
Faulty ignition?

Gotta be the ignition tumbler. Never heard of this happening though, good times.

Well….that’s a first. Agree, it’s telling you it wants to go wheeling.

Haven’t seen a car that wants to keep running since my mom’s 75 Cutlass would keep trying to run when she shut it off…..now that’s something my kids will probably never experience , carb gurgle or whatever that was, ha

Actually that was called Run On.... or Dieseling....
That is when the excessive carbon build up in each combustion chamber provided an ignition source to ignite the remaining fuel in each cylinder which caused the engine to continue running sounding like a diesel engine belching out black smoke.

Inspected the ignition tumbler and wires and didn’t find any evidence of a short.
Im thinking it has something to do with me disconnecting the park interlock at the shifter when I replaced the shifter with a B&M shifter that has the interlock built in.
If I follow the park interlock cable it runs up to the ignition…wondering if I should disconnect it at the tumbler too

Got pics of the shifter,

It looks good, the reason I wanted it is because when we are in the mountains and I have to shift into 2nd gear ,I have to hit the brakes to get it to go into 2nd.can you go from 3rd to 2nd without tapping the brakes,thanks-jeff

You don’t have to hit the brakes at all to shift from any gear with this B&M shifter. The trigger takes the place of the brake.

The key has a chip in it. If you turn it on with a non chipped key, it starts and runs then cuts out after a few seconds. Ignition might be jacked. Stick in any other key and see if you can turn it. When you pulled key ignition possibly turned?

The key that came with the Jeep is black…my understanding is the grey keys have the chip.

Both my keys are black. I argued with guy at Ace that my key wasn’t chipped… so he made me a non chipped. It ran for a few seconds and cut out…. Then he made me a chipped one lol

Ace can’t program chipped keys, how did you get it programmed? Did you have to use the 2 working to program it?

It’s odd that universally the black keys don’t have a chip, gray ones do, but yours is different?
