Oil pressure seems weird when idling. Starts at zero then slowly go up to just below 20. Doesn't really increase a whole lot when RPM increases. I put more oil in it because it was running low and it only made a slight difference.

No.

At the same time the oil pressure gauges are notoriously inaccurate, and said to give a false mid level reading to satisfy owners-

It would be good to have a real gauge hooked up , at least to check for a real problem- and other guys on here may post with better ideas so watch your thread-

Check the actual pressure with a separate pressure gauge screwed into the oil pressure sensor port (recommended by Andy G above).
IF the idling and off idle oil pressure indicates 30-40 psi; the next step would be to replace the oil pressure sending until that you removed to perform the above test.

If your only seeing the lower pressure when the engine is hot , that is typically normal.
The oil gets "thinner" and easier to pump , lowering the resistance to flow , ( pressure ).
Thinner viscosity oils also lower the pressure. Using a reliable gauge on the port is the only real way to tell , ( As others have said ).
