Remove RTV from oil pan gasket

Yeah I’ve read some of your posts on that topic. I’ll probably just get a new one. The new RMS & bearing cap with anaerobic has been curing for 3 days and i want to get the oilpan on tomorrow, so I’ll probably buy the gasket at a brick and mortar.

Remove RTV from oil pan gasket

I replaced my RMS last month on the 4.0 and put on a new FelPro oil pan gasket at the same time. Of course the oil leak persists, so I’m trying again. My question is whether there is a practical way to remove the RTV residue from the gasket without damaging it. I tried carb cleaner and brake...

Changing intake manifold gasket on my 2005, what can I do to make the job less of a nightmare?

I did the manifold on my ‘95 YJ and did not remove the fender. Rather I used a variety of socket extensions, 1/4” and 3/8” drive, wobbly and not. You can stack them up and get access from far away through tight spaces.

Possible To Remove New OEM Skins From Soft Windows For Latest Use Without Damage?

I had a similar situation; my LJ came to me with a black soft top (Rugged Ridge fabric on an OEM frame) and full doors. I wanted half doors and a tan/khaki top. I ended up with used upper window frames, and got a pair of new dark khaki upper skins from Sierra off-road. They attach with velcro...

    Jeepcables Headlight harness routing

This my existing setup with their Big7 kit. I thought the positive terminal cable had to go directly to the battery terminal. Can I use one of the lugs on the PDC? Or even closer would be the in-line fuse that goes to the alternator?

    Jeepcables Headlight harness routing

I decided to replace the factory headlight circuit with the “Daylight” harness from Jeepcables. Since it is designed for an XJ with the battery in the front of the engine compartment, I’m having trouble deciding where to anchor the relays. I think the best spot would be just below the...

    Scary YJ engine noise

I cranked it up this afternoon. Oil pressure gauge went up promptly. The sound was less pronounced than yesterday; it almost sounded normal but still a faint metallic whine. Seems more audible near the front of the engine. Maybe i’m just not remembering what it sounded like before the repair.

    Scary YJ engine noise

The oil pickup was undisturbed. I saw a bit of sludge on the screen but it seemed minimal to me

    Scary YJ engine noise

I didn’t look at the oil pressure gauge when it was running but I can do that. I was careful to apply the 3mm bead of RTV only where indicated on the bearing cap, but I saw a tiny bit squeeze out after installing the cap; I imagine some could have worked its way around the shaft as well, but I...

    Scary YJ engine noise

I had an oil leak in my 95 YJ so I tackled the rear main seal and oil pan gasket. Never done a RMS but since my LJ just developed a similar leak I decided to go for it. Things went slowly but I the only trouble I had was inserting the new upper half; it was very tight and I ruined one. I...

A time to break down, and a time to build (the LJ) up

I would say in the past few years the only significant highway mileage it’s seen is on the way to the mountain trails. I use it for short trips around town, running errands and carrying small loads, but it definitely hasn’t been a daily driver or road tripper. It has to stay drivable on road...

A time to break down, and a time to build (the LJ) up

I posted the above a year ago and I'm thinking about taking the next step this winter. However, I'm not sure about the plan. In debating 4.56 vs. 4.88, @machoheadgames pointed out that if I ever need to swap from the NSG to an AX-15 I would be better off with deeper gears. Plus, if I do the...
