Rebuilding TJ Rubicon NP241OR with some parts from JK

I believe that I already did. I am transplanting https://ebay.us/m/9ygPBd TJ speedometer housing on top of JK 241 rear plate. It is supposed to work just fine.

Rebuilding TJ Rubicon NP241OR with some parts from JK

Hi folks, I am rebuilding my NP241OR. The rear side of the case is damaged, so I am planning to take rear side from JK NP241, which are a little stronger. This will require some work for shift fork adaptation, due to difference in hole depth between JK and TK casings. Also planning to use...

    NP242 Transfer Case Swap?

IIf you apply a lot of torque to the front at high speed and the steering wheel is turned to the maximum left for example, doesn't it breakthe ujoint? I thought that u-joints have issues at high angles at high speeds.

    NP242 Transfer Case Swap?

Question to all the folks here: After you upgrade to NP242, now you have torque going to front wheels in all situations if selected. How you deal with the fact that you have front shafts with U-joints instead of RCVs? Are you taking Dana 30 RCVs from XJ or something?

What gear ratio should I install in my Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ? (and other re-gearing FAQs)

If you have LJ, then you can read transmission temperature from OBD. You dont have to use a bung and add thermal sensor into it. I had to do it because I have TJ 2004 which (similar to 2003) has separate TCM and transmission temperature is not readable through OBD. 2005 and 2006 have TCM...

What gear ratio should I install in my Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ? (and other re-gearing FAQs)

It is always in the wrong gear because it is simply not geared right. 4.88 with 35s - it is correct gearing for 31s:)

What gear ratio should I install in my Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ? (and other re-gearing FAQs)

At least on flat highways of Houston metro, the below combo works fine. Other places (a lot of hills or mountain roads) I would go much deeper. 1. 4.56 for 30 inch tires - 2552 RPM at 70 MPH 2. 4.88 for 31 inch tires - 2640 RPM at 70MPH 3. 5.13 for 32 inch tires - 2668 RPM at 70 MPH 4. 5.38 for...

What gear ratio should I install in my Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ? (and other re-gearing FAQs)

I am targeting my gearing for comfortable daily driving in 2HI. Not doing any crazy trails, so Low gear (NP231) is working well for me, like in Bend Bend national park. Understanding what I understand today, I would use the following gearing of (4.0, 42RLE): 1. 4.56 for 30 inch tires - 2552 RPM...

What gear ratio should I install in my Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ? (and other re-gearing FAQs)

The folks who recommend 4.88 for 33s don’t know what are they talking about. I have 4.56 (very close to 4.88), and 31 is the maximum that you can do without loosing power. You need to have at least 2500RPM for 70MPH. The overdrive ratio is 0.69, so it shifts into overdrive, you get easily into...

What gear ratio should I install in my Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ? (and other re-gearing FAQs)

With 4.56 and 30 inch tires, I am at 2750 RPM at 75. I would say that it is good enough. The problem with going deeper, is that on flat surfaces of Texas, you start to have really high RPM for 75MPH, and you don’t really need it. I disagree that it is an irritating transmission. It is better...

What gear ratio should I install in my Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ? (and other re-gearing FAQs)

I installed the transmission cooler from derale. When used with correct gearing, and derale, 42RLE does not overheat at least for me.

What gear ratio should I install in my Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ? (and other re-gearing FAQs)

I would do 5.38 for 33s. 5.13 is the bare minimum for them.

What gear ratio should I install in my Jeep Wrangler TJ / LJ? (and other re-gearing FAQs)

I recently downsized my tires to 30 inch tires (from 31 inch). Now I am running 4.0, 42RLE, 4.56 gears and 30 inch tires. It drives amazing, especially acceleration with overdrive disabled. When on highway, I get around 2550RPM around 70MPH, it drives amazing. Seems like most of the bad rap that...

Should you get a heavy duty fan clutch?

I am running Hayden Automotive 2791 Premium Fan Clutch. It is way better than 2771, I had that before. Never used 2794, so cannot comment.
