The pic is the cap, it just has a lot of grease and or dirt on that. It is more likely the automatic transmission vent line. I have a 2006 TJ and that is where my automatic transmission vent line is. My transfer case vent line is in the same spot on the drivers side of the engine.

Something I didn't see in your write-up......check your two precats. You will have to drop the exhaust to do it.

Before you start, measure your pinion angles and driveshaft angles. Install skid plate Measure pinion angles and driveshaft angles afterwards. No guessing.....you'll have the numbers and know what to do.

Finished the 500 mile break in on the new axle and gears. They are running smooth and oil was very clean. Thanks again for all your help.
