Leaving Durango ,Co today we stopped at the Mesa Verde State Park and immediately were informed the dwellings were 20 miles in the Park.

No wonder they have sat empty for centuries- let’s look at what went wrong:

First , 20 miles off the main road and no Walmart for 100 miles was bad demographics. Someone should have talked to zoning.

Second, they seemed to have a strong cultural bias on who they leased these out to. No wonder they couldn’t get a HUD subsidy.

Third, and this concerns me the most, they moved tenants in before they were finished- the windows and doors are still on backorder, and seems they would have gotten a Certificate of Occupancy at the inspection office before they got so carried away.

Now I’m off to the grand canyon to find out why the State of Arizona didn’t practice erosion control and let that get out of hand. Stay with me.

Hey get this-my wife thinks I’m retarded because I say the only practical foot tattoos people should have need to be “Right” and “Left”. Now that could come in handy if you drink a lot, get Alzheimers or are just plain forgetful.

Which shoe is which could still be an issue.

Saw the Grand Canyon-got some ideas on how to fix that coming soon.

well.... the developer declared bankruptcy 2/3 the way through the project and the GC pulled all the capable workers just before it finished.... you know?.... a typical construction project. It was about 20 years behind schedule and, after a short drought, it was about 5,600 baskets of Maize over budget as well.

The developer reformed a group that went in to pre-fabricated dwellings made of animal skins as the younger kids became more nomadic and traveled a lot.

Alright, so we head to Jacob’s lake, great cookies and quaint. Can’t find a lake.

then we head to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. 35 dollars later all I see is cabins and big lodge and people making a big fuss at the back windows, I try to peek through but the ground drops off sharp you can’t see a thing but air, I figure there must be a marmot or something and head to the gift shop. After the mask nazi gets rude I mask up and find a book about all the people that died there. At that point I figure there must be more to it and walk around the lodge to the back.

Oh my word. The first problem I see is procrastination ....someone should have already been working on this way back.

I find a ranger and tell him where I’m from and try not to make him feel bad , and try to find a nice way to tell him they either need to dam that creek at the bottom, create a lake and subdivide the perimeter into lake lots...that or put “hard fill wanted” signs and turn a blind eye to a few appliances getting thrown in, then start planning the utilities and golf course . As usual, I’m never appreciated so we leave.

next is monument valley, couldn’t see squat due to the weird rock formations in the way...I figure a winch and dynamite would do wonders.

went through vermillion cliffs , an airless sprayer and some good exterior latex in a tan color and a good crew with scaffolds and they could then sell ad spots on the walls.

saw a little hat on a rock , that was cute.

Now I’m in Moab, waiting on the Mormons to get out of service to see if I can broker a truckload deal for fill dirt and top soil...they need a lot to fix this place.

Next is arches national park - I didn’t bring spray paint this time, they get plumb rude about leaving your forum handle on the rocks
