My impatience got to me. While going down the rabbit hole in search for Half door interior panels in Dark Slate grey, several forum members and some threads mentioned painting the panels I had. After doing some further research on paint prep, I'm happy to share the following.

I prepped the panels by taping off the interior pocket to avoid excess spray, although the color is very close to dark slate grey. Next, I wiped the panels down with acetone to clean off any grease. Following, scuff up the surface with scotch-brite followed by another wipe down with acetone. Then, I used a bottle torch to lightly burn off excessive residue and "warm-up" the plastic. Probably not needed but I was doing this in a 60 degree garage. A light coat of SEM adhesion promoter followed by a heavy coat within 5 minutes. Within 30 minutes, apply several lights coats of SEM 17373 classic coat flexible coating. Surprisingly, it's labeled as "Chrysler Dark Slate Grey". And voila...

I'm by no means a professional painter but they came out pretty darn good. My existing interior panels have a slight "sheen" to them in comparison but You'd have to really pay close attention to notice any difference. Running a fingernail over the panel did not scratch so time will tell how abrasion resistant the paint it but at least touch-up is simple.

I failed to mention my interior half door panels were originally "Mist Grey".
I know this is an older thread, however I purchased half doors for my 2003 TJR and they have the same “Mist Grey”. The interior of the TJ is Dark Slate Grey, I’m planning to spray using the same method as in your post. Thanks 👍🏻

Agate is to light, and so is the dark slate grey the op used I just went through this, landau black is the right color
That always seemed too dark, but good to know. This vinyl paint isn’t holding up well at all, so next round will be landau black.

Million dollar question, my paint code was dark slate, but I needed just a tad more dark. You can see the difference here, in the Jeep it’s not noticeable.

It looks ever so slightly more grey and has a flat finish compared to the full door. I have a set of Light Khaki Metallic half doors from Arizona (not a spec of rust on them), the exterior matched my TJ perfectly. I have a 2003 with Dark Slate Grey interior as well and will probably attempt to paint the panels. Originally I thought they were a "mist grey", however after taking them off last night I found a white tag on the inside, "Trim" says "Khaki". Regardless, they don't match the rest of my interior. I may post to a local FB group and see if anyone has Dark Slate panels and looking for Khaki. Probably a long shot and should get moving on painting them myself.

Besides changing the interior panel color, I need to replace one of the plastic door rod holders that attach to the interior door handle. Since the half doors were in Arizona, I'm sure the plastic parts are brittle due to heat and will replace all of the little plastic components (2 rod holders on each door). Depending on what new OEM or aftermarket small parts are available, I might replace most of the plastic components on the inside of the half-doors to eliminate near future failures (if they are available).

As for the uppers, my half doors were sold with lowers only. Earlier in the Spring I ordered Bestop uppers with glass sliders. They had a sale and it was the best deal I could find. Unfortunately the ship date has been extended 3x's, supposedly they are shipping middle of this month. They're expensive, however my TJR is low mileage and in really great condition (and I want to keep it that way). Figured pay once, cry once (or however that saying goes). Hopefully by Fall I'll have the half doors fully reconditioned with the uppers installed, and ready to roll. I'll be taking pics during the reconditioning of the half doors and will post when complete. There's a wealth of knowledge in this forum, hope to help out as well.

Dark slate gray matched my 2003 agate pretty well but for 2003 up it’s landau black
Yeah about 6 weeks ago I drove myself crazy over this!

Good luck, I ordered new interior handles and exterior. My driver side handle keeps breaking the plastic pieces off when I open the door. I’ve replaced the plastic piece about 3 times, it even broke the factory plastic piece. Worst case I just reach in and use interior handle. It’s annoying for sure but not the end of the world. I don’t mind the slight off of the color, in some light it matches just fine. With both front seats occupied no one can see it. I’ll try landau black on the next go around. You can buy exterior and interior handles for $74

The color code is located where? on the inside of the door panel?

I don't know which color my door cards, but I wouldn't mind painting them. I tried the heat gun and oddly they went right back to faded ash grey after a few weeks.

There isn’t a code on door panels. Post a picture of them and that’ll help.
