I hate wires. I like them neat and- when possible- out of the way completely. So I was thinking about how to get a power cord to my phone without hanging in front of the dash.

I searched for a while to see if someone had done something similar and came up short... so I got to thinking... and this was the result. I’m not a fabricator, so got lucky with the bottle opener. Came out great. Easy mod if anyone is looking for a <$20 way to clean up some power cords.

Nicely done, though do you have any concerns about the phone in that mount if the airbag were to deploy in an accident?

Nice job! If you have a panel where the ashtray would be or get a double DIN dash with an ashtray delete, you could make a hole and use that same usb plug into your radio. That way it's closer to you and personally I just think it looks nice

That's what I did - works great for charging and the USB cable is run to the Alpine for CarPlay. However, I do like the idea for some extra chargers available, especially hidden when not needed. Could be a good idea to get a SPOT locator or similar and throw it in the glovebox with the charger cord hooked up.

What did you wire it into? I’m looking to do something like this as well.

where did you pick up the power for the hot wire? Did you fuse it?

I have a jaundiced view of Americans attempting to use English properly
;)

During my Navy days I had the pleasure of flying with a Royal Navy Sea King exchange pilot, over here to show us Yanks how things should be done. Fine pilot, Falklands veteran, been there, done that, had nothing to prove to anyone. In a friendly conversation about accents he remarked, "You Yanks speak English rather badly. The Australians don't speak it at all." A curious attitude, I thought, coming from a Cornishman... ;)
