Milestar Patagonia Tires—Good, Bad, or Ugly?

Really surprised to see those having wear issues with the Patagonia's... I'm on my first set for 25,000 and 3 years now and they are wearing perfectly. My second set on my LJ is too new to make any determinations.

But this shows really clearly how well mine are wearing.

For now, I'll assume poor quality control.
 
Grooving makes the Patagonias an ok tire. It really isn't worth the effort. Once you get a real tire like the MTR, you'll kick yourself for wasting so much time and effort trying to make a garbage tire into something it isn't.

But now you have a tire groover! :)
The groover is just a bandaid, i had to choose tires or Atlas.... i chose Atlas + groover and then my wife asked last night those 5 words everyman hopes he never has to hear... "how much did that cost?" so needless to say i'm not getting tires until she gets a replacement for the Volvo V70.

My set was a compromise too. They came with a set of wheels I needed. I just hoped the tires would last longer and do a bit better than they did. I get it.
 
Drove the Jeep to get lunch today. Jeep has been sitting since July in the garage.

The tires flat spotted pretty good. Pretty common I know, bit the last set of radials I remember flat spotting were Krawlers.

They are still very quiet on the road. Quieter than Duratracs.

It seem strange to me that I sucessfully completed the Rubicon Trail the first time on 31's and the second time on 32's but now Jeep Jamboree says that 35-40" tires are required to run that trial as a participant. (Jeepers Jamboree requires at least 33" tires.)

Did the Rubicon become that much more difficult over the years? Or is it that our perception of minimum necessary tire size for rockcrawling has changed? (I'm not talking about competition or extreme rockcrawling, I'm talking about rockcrawling for ordinary mortals/weekend enthusiasts who might rock crawl one weekend and overland the next.) I know that Jeep Jamboree wants large tires to make their lives easier as event organizers, but is the Rubicon really a 35-40" tire trail or is it a 31" tire trail or is it something in between?


Just wondering (as I fondly gaze at my 35's).
I actually ran the JJUSA Rubicon trip this year... and I asked them about both the 35" tire rule and the "nothing older than a TJ" rule... in both cases it boiled down to they have a ton of vehicles to move through the trail and they are trying to keep things moving. A JKU on smaller tires for example requires more time/work spotting due to reduced clearances and they say they've had more trouble with breakdowns/parts etc for the older Jeeps.

IMO on road they are fine, quieter than i recall my Cooper ST MAxx all terrains were on my tacoma.

I still want to go for a ride on a dirt road in this beast before you end up selling it :)

On the ultra 4 car and SxS, no mention on the JL yet but they say they are on team Nitto so I’d bet they go that route there also.
