Milestar Patagonia Tires—Good, Bad, or Ugly?

Had a set of 285-75R 16’s on mine when I bought it. Really didn’t like them at all.

Noisy and didn’t stay balanced. Got KO2’s now. Much better.

And if anyone wants the Patagonia’s, I got 5 with quite a lot of tread left, I’ll make ya a killer deal

Depends on how gracefully you want to negotiate the trail. Sure, you can run the Con on 32's, but you won't be doing it gracefully, or unassisted.

That right there is the problem. It's akin to hunting flies with a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with #9 birdshot and telling the guy with the flyswatter how awesome he is.

Guy on 31's says he can follow the guys on big tires around because the guys on big tires are on trails you can do on 31's. He isn't following them on trails you can't do on 31's, he is following them around on trails you can do on 31's. Then you look like the asshole when you point out the obvious which is the folks with big tires are seriously overestimating the trail difficulty and they have to or admit they are on trails you can do on 31's.

Having had 32’s and following guys on 35’s and 37’s I learned to NOT follow their lines if I could help it.

Having had 32’s and following guys on 35’s and 37’s I learned to NOT follow their lines if I could help it.

Line choice is incredibly important and people often forget that when they get larger tires. I helped spot a stock JKU up Red Cone in Colorado a few years back (not that hard of a trail). I was god awful as a spotter. You know who was really good at spotting the stock JKU? The guy in the stock 4runner. I've been so used to spotting built Jeeps and driving my own with lockers and 35's that I can barely spot anyone driving a stock rig.

They’re basically 33’s, and enough for me.

Man, I went to Tahuya today and it poured rain all day. The Patagonia did fawking TERRIBLE on wet boulders. I could not get traction to crawl and it wasn't just the conditions. Guy wheeling with us was on 35" swampers he crawler right up in low low it was embarrassing .... Mostly because it was a Toyota. Ended up having to "bump" to get over anything and nearly flopped it.

For anyone looking into getting these tires.... DON'T!!! they wear away like butter . Didn't even have them a full 2 years or over 20k miles on em and they are already worn down and look bald almost.. I took them up many trails and wet pavement and the tread thats left on them is shit. And yes they are very sketchy in the rain.

I bought 4 of the milestars Feb 2, 2019 and its now not even a full 2 years I need to replace them already . The tread depth left on them is 3-5 which is horrible.

I was thinking of going with the cooper evolution mt’s but I’m not sure if it’s a good choice what you think ?

I was thinking of the evolution MT’s or the General X3’s, seem good and they get a lot of love in the sand rail community.

You might say I have been putting to much though into this.

I don’t think your thinking about this too much though . Nobody wants to have to buy tires so often better make a good choice. My friend runs the generals x3 on his Cherokee and he goes every where with them literally everywhere with them but I’m getting a deal for the coopers for $600 all 4 tires new from a shop that’s tax and installation included I’m still debating on weather to pull the trigger yet.

your planning to run 31x10.5 and not something wider because you just want to stick with what you have or for better handling abilities on paved roads. 10.5 in comparison to 12.5

Yet more good news on the X3’s. Yay!

sticking with 31’s cause I’m a broke HS kid that can’t really afford to build 33’s properly, so I decided to do 31’s rather than do 33’s half assed. And sh e is the DD, so some on road handling is required.

Has anyone experimented with grooving the Patagonias? I was out on wet rocks again last weekend, they actually did "ok" it wasn't raining so that helped but still wet. I ordered a groover from amazon and plannign to open up the tread a bit. I saw a guy on facebook did this, removed the small part of the outer lug on each side:

Id be curious to know how much it helped. I was settling into n the General Grabber X3’s for my next set. But it would be nice to know if you could “modify” these tires a little and get much better performance.

Grooving makes the Patagonias an ok tire. It really isn't worth the effort. Once you get a real tire like the MTR, you'll kick yourself for wasting so much time and effort trying to make a garbage tire into something it isn't.

But now you have a tire groover!
