Installed double DIN radio

I have a 97 with the sliding HVAC. I used the supplied spacers for the HVAC controls. Took me a while to get the brackets and mounts lined up, but I was able to get it to work. There was a lot of slop in the Metra brackets, so I made my own holes in it, then supported them with metal angle brackets that I fashioned out of truss brackets.

What did you use to add the USB port to the (otherwise) blank panel? Is that patched into the back of the Alpine unit so you can connect your phone to it? I've been planning to add the same unit and was wondering how to cleanly route the USB cable for easy use.

USB 3.0 Flush Mount

I installed the above USB 3.0 flush mount. It plugs into the back of the head unit. I used a stepped bit to drill the hole in the blank panel. There was a little clean up work on the backside with a dremel to make sure the nut on the back seated properly. It works great. Not a single disconnection in over a month of daily use.

Awesome! Thank you!

I tried to get creative since I could not locate a drop-in USB rocker switch. I found a company that had one close in size so I was able to get it done in the stock location. Not the prettiest, but it was fun and looks stock.

Metra sells the dash kit you need to install the average double DIN

use the Metra kit and get the wire harness too. makes it a quick job. I soldered the new harness to the one that comes with the new radio on the table before starting the installation.

just be careful cutting the plastic sub dash to not cut the wires. I put a piece of metal there to protect them when cutting.
