Porch Pirate snatch and run

People suck.

We have cameras. They're a bitch to get dialed in because the motion sensitivity is basically all or nothing. Definitely want to get a different brand. Nextdoor can be helpful in tracking suspicious people and/or cars, but then you get paranoid people who are posting about every damn passerby and the tough guys who say "they're welcome to come to my house".

That paranoid person was a lady that lived behind me. Neighborhood watch to the max, but it didn't hurt my feelings when she moved. One day she mentioned that she knew when I came home because I closed all the curtains. Well no shit, there's a creepy lady looking in my house all the time.

Blaine, I have some direct burial cat5e. Using the inside back half of your mailbox we could mount a PoE camera facing down/up street.
Ya' know, that is not a bad idea at all. I need to measure and order up some direct burial cables from the company for a single run. I'm not going to like what happens when it gets to the house but I'm kinda over aesthetics at this point. I'll stick in some conduit going up into the attic and go from there. I've got room for 5 more cameras on the recorder and I've got good spots for those.

Police have been notified, report filed, license plate # given. I've racked my brain trying to figure out a way to make a camera do something worthy with utter failure so far.

In this case, they would have had to run over the camera, have it pop up behind them, and then have another on top of the packages. The thief never looked up, the driver was well obscured by the tint, and no front license plate.

I’m sure there is better cameras out there then this but a trail camera would be something you could set up at the pickup/drop off station and it would only be activated by motion...
I hate getting stole from, makes you feels violated and you feel you can’t trust anyone!!.. glad no one got hurt

I've got 574 foot spool I can drop off next week sometime. Still have that helper in Corona? Soon as you get it ran I can terminate the ends with RJ45's.

We will go with prevention instead of trying to fix it after the items are gone. I violated my personal rule of protecting things you care about and learned my lesson. All items of value are behind the gate now and that won't change.

What the eye don't see, the heart don't grieve.

So was that something we could embed or did it take special masked man type powers?

Since it wasn't a Vimeo or YouTube video, it doesn't automatically embed. It's an MP4 so it needed to be uploaded as an attachment, but it was also too big to upload being 98 MB. I resized it to 35 MB (the limit for uploaded videos, not embedded) and uploaded it that way.

I appreciate it but I think I am going to have to bury conduit or get a new system which is not a pleasant alternative. The cameras run on BNC siamese coax with attached power. Quick search shows that isn't readily available in direct burial.

Ya good choice... I don’t ship probably as much as you but I either drop off at the place, or have them pick up from my place of business

Man just catching one of these bastards would be absolutely glorious. We'd sit around at work discussing this very thing back in the day when car stereos were a hot theft item. We said if one of us ever caught a guy messing with our things, we'd get him in the garage and call everyone up that's ever been fucked with and say, hey we got him. He's the one. Then everyone gets a turn. Or three.
