What has to be done to fit 33s on a budget?

Hello,

I just purchased my first jeep wrangler being new to this industry I have some questions regarding my purchase. I live in Phoenix, AZ and I plan on taking my Jeep on trails here and there but nothing crazy (no rock climbing etc..) . I'd like to fit 33's on my jeep and I've even seen people fit 35's on their jeep with no lift. What has to be done so I can fit some bigger tires. My budget is pretty tight and I dont want to spend aa ton of money if I'm not going to be off roading crazy trails. I just really like the look of the TJ with some nice tires. I bought a new bumper w/ winch and fender flares. I was looking into a body lift which a lot cheaper and honestly seems like the best option for me (just need a little clearance to fit tires) and what opinions do you have with rough country? Thanks!

Research. 35s with no lift will not work. Dont fall into those traps with youtube videos claiming you can (like 38s:rolleyes:). There is a lot more to tire size then just slapping on the biggest tire you can.

Rough country is bottom of the barrel. This site favors the more thought-out builds. Savvy, Genright, Currie, Zone, OME. You're in the right place to build your jeep correctly, not cheaply.

Still wont work.

For 33’s to be done right, you need 4” of lift. A 1" or 1.25" body lift it could work if paired with a 3” suspension lift. The TJ had 4" of travel from the factory. If you put 33s on your going to have to increase your bumpstops if you dont want them tearing into your fender. Meaning you'll have less travel in your jeep as a stock one. You lose both on and offroad performance.

Stay away from Rough Country, their lifts are crap.

If you want a good lift to run 33s, buy the Zone 4.25" combo lift and pair it with a SYE and CV driveshaft. This can be done for a very good price and will allow you run 33s with ease, and also won't break the bank.

Get a set of 285 75r 16 tires.. they are 32+ in height and get you a 2 inch lift with a 2 in spacer puck for the front, one that you can afford.. they go on sale a lot just do some research and do t buy crap cause you will get crap...... I did this set up on my first Jeep I sold awhile back but it was fine for getting the look and didn’t sacrifice any ride problems

There are people here who would kill to have a TJ that clean. Can I suggest not buying anything and going out on some trails exactly the way it is?

It looks like it has new BFG's on it. I understand you want it to look Beefy in the Parking lot by bolting on a lift kit and 33's. But I really stress getting out in it first. Your tire size doesn't make you a Jeeper.

Go wheeling, get bit by the Jeep bug. Come back here and soak up info before spending hard earned money!

What @Chris said is spot on. Even if you don't get the Zone kit and decide to put together your own setup with better components it is a good outline of the right way to do things.

You absolutely do not "get what you pay for." Rancho RS5000X shocks are the perfect example of this, they are inexpensive and are highly recommended.

If you're not wheeling your jeep hard then I believe you can get away with adding 33's fairly cheap. When I got my jeep the PO had put on a 2" budget boost spring spacer lift with 32" tires. I added 33x12.5 tires with zero problems and no rubbing.

I don't do any rock crawling or mudding though but I do take it off road on trails and have never rubbed a fender.

Later I plan on swapping the spacers for 2.5" OME springs and a 1.25" body lift but for now they work perfect for how I drive it and it's my daily driver.

Axle gearing? Which would bring back the stock performance...?

I have 3.07 gears which people said were horrible when going to 33's but it's really not as bad as people have claimed. You don't really notice it so much till you get on the interstate and you max out at about 80 mph.

I have the 32RH automatic transmission and yes I'd prefer it to be quicker and have more pep so I'll be going with 4.10 gears later on but it's not horrible now.

You'll rethink what horrible was after you get some proper gears in there.
