Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ engine mounts

What did you do to your TJ today?

Today was fix the valve cover leak day. Pulled the valve cover and spent several hours degreasing the cover inside and out. The outside really took some time to degrease. Spend about an hour or so cleaning the mating surface of the head, being very meticulous in limiting dirt from slipping into the engine. Used a Felpro gasket, they make really nice gaskets. Hope it's sealed up now.

Pro tip, use a couple ty-raps to raise and hold the wiring harness at the back of the oil pan out of the way for easier removal and installation.

There is an article online that addresses vibrations caused by the Belly Up Tummy Tuck and Brown Dog Off Road sells a set of 1" engine mounts that are supposed to alleviate the problem.

Following up, it turns out the front mount

bolts on the Barns4wd skid plate were too long and making hard contact. It wasn't the mount at all, but it perfectly simulated a failed mount. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem. I don't see a mention in any thread that I can find. I cut off about 1/4" and used a shorter nut with red thread locker instead of a lock washer. All is smooth now.

Sounds like you could capitalize on their poor design and make a ton of money at the same time if you built your own.

I did make my own for the YJ. I used a trailer hub assembly with replaceable bearings that I got from Ruffstuff Specialties. The thing was stout!

The Warn bumper came with the TJ when I bought it. The tire carrier was loose and had been annoying me for the few years that I have had it. I probably could have redone the carrier part of it and improved upon what was there a bit, but I really didn't want to have a two stage operation to get into the rear of the Jeep. The convenience of being able to open the rear gate with one hand and not have to deal with a seperate tire carrier is pretty nice.

I do like the Warn bumper itself. It has nice angles and fits close to the frame. I would never recommend the tire carrier though. It really is a junk design.

:) Took out the axle plate retained bolts on my Dana 44 project today. You ever have one of those Aha moments combined with an Ah shit moment? I was trying to figure out how in the hell can you torque those retaining bolts as I removed seven of the eight with a 14 MM wrench. I thought to myself they should have a hole ion the axle flange/hub and voila my dumb ass moment when i realized there is a hole. I could just see my old man shaking his head at me. Well at least I used the socket to remove the last one.😂

I also sanded and partially painted my new to me radiator brace that I picked up from @Goreshnik here on the forum.

I had a "heater core scare" with my new-to-me TJ a few days ago. If I had to tear mine down to that extent, I'd be tempted to put in a "classic" style dash similar to a Willys or CJ. That's just ridiculous that you have to go through all that to change an evaporator or heater core!

Otherwise, I just swapped out the stock sealed beams - apparently originals - for "E-code" Hella H4 conversion units that I picked up LNIB for $20/pr. I'll eventually try an LED bulb in them, but this way I get to keep GLASS on the front of the Jeep - very important here in Florida.

Messed around with possiblities for mounting a 4 circuit BlueSea battery mounted PDU. If it was made ANY other way than the way it is, it would have been easier. Not BlueSea's fault at all, just the way it works out, if it had the buss bar coming out of the other end, or the other side, or even closer to the bottom; the install would be cleaner. I'm going to have to space it up with a nut as it is. *shrug*

Today was fix the sway/body roll issue. Installed a Teraflex Sway Bar System and removed the POS Skyjacker quick disconnects.

I've had an issue with sway/body roll for some time. Spent a lot of time searching for the source of the issue. I thought it was alignment, so I had it checked a few weeks ago and the alignment was fine. I spend most of my time looking at the rear suspension because the rear end felt loose/sway. Can't find anything. I turned my attention to the front end. I noticed the Skyjacker quick disconnects on the front sway bar had a lot of stack so I assume this is the culprit.

I've been wanting the Teraflex Sway Bar System for a really long time and decided this was the time to installed it in hopes it will remedy my sway/body roll issue.

Installing the Teraflex sway bar trough the provided bushings was a real pain in the ass. It took quite a bit of hammering to get it in. I hope to road test tomorrow if I can get my transmission back in.

Picked up some Purple Power for a deep engine bay and underbody clean this weekend.

Ordered NOS Fogs, keeping our TJ Nostalgic.

Replaced the light in the auto shift indicator

NOS KMC Fogs, I’m a sucker for Amber Lights.

I remember mounting similar lights on my 66 chevy pu way back in the olden days. 😄
