Shocks for 4" lifts

Honestly, I guess I can update this thread, but honestly I haven't changed anything. My Jeep is not my daily driver anymore, not for any other reason you might think, but I am a motorcycle dude, and traffic sucks, so I mainly ride back and forth to have the carpool lane. Seriously saves me 2 hours a day to ride in, rather than drive my Jeep. My work changed locations.

I am still running the Rancho's for now. For the money I think they are a good buy. That said I used to have a OME 2 inch lift with the OME shocks and the ride was amazing. I had some problems with the lift itself, and I like the look and clearance of the 4" anyway, so I decided to upgrade to the Currie 4" and the Rancho shocks. I ended up putting the 2" on my wifes Jeep, and hers is all stock except for the 2inch lift and the shocks and front discos. Oh and the 31" Duratracs.

Her Jeep rides much better than mine. Not that mine rides all that bad.
Now my tires are the STT pros, so that could have a little to do with it, maybe the transfer of vibration from the JJ's? I am not sure, but it is not cushy like a car. Mine drives like an old Ford F150 pickup. My wifes drives like a car.

I am not sure if my $200 shocks are the cause or if her $400 dollars shocks would make that much difference. So I figured that they are not horrible by any means, so I am going to keep them until they wear out, and if nothing changes in the shock world by then, I may try the $400 shocks next time.

So to break it down. Loved the ride of the 2" with the OME's, but I am not positive the OME's would actually make it smoother or not, but I don't want to lay down another $400 to find out since the shocks I have are still pretty good.

I don't think anybody will be too dissappointed wtih the the Rancho 5KX's.

I know that isn't much help, but I figure if I lay it out there it may or may not help you decide. But that has been my experience.

I have the same setup as you minus the anti-rock and have Jks disconnects. Feels very solid on the highway. Keeps getting better as it breaks in more. I only have about 500 miles on my suspension right now. See if anyone has some laying around you can buy for cheap. I've heard similar complaints which is why I went with disconnects instead.

Thanks for the update, I currently and on the newer OME kit and just ordered a set of 4” currie springs. With the anti rock I like the firm OME shocks, though the potholes are rough. I may wait for a set of metalcloak shocks to go on sale vs the ranchos, haven’t made up my mind yet

Thanks for your honesty. I had the discos on my Jeep with the two inch lift. But I was excited about the fact of not unpinning and repinning every time I went off road. I decided to give the AR a shot with the 4 inch. I went all in, but yeah it is pretty scary on the road at high speeds. It is nice off road because I get a lot more articulation without having to un-pin, but downright scary getting off of the freeway on a roundy exit at 65.

I am on the fence though since my Jeep isn't my daily driver anymore. Is it worth paying another 200 bucks for a set of disco's for a better ride on the street? I think the anti-rock is noticeably better off road.

Good to hear, but I don't know of any shocks that are amazing with potholes.

I don't know how far you are from trails but if you are driving your jeep to most of the spots $200 may be worth it. If you plan to trailer it eventually then keep the AR.

Which position are you running for your Antirock these days? I’ve been playing with mine since bumping to 4”, but haven’t gotten too much Highway time yet.

I don't know how far you are from trails but if you are driving your jeep to most of the spots $200 may be worth it. If you plan to trailer it eventually then keep the AR.

I mostly trailer mine to trails, so if it breaks down, I can get it home. I did break a front track bar bolt once. I was glad I towed it there that day.

That is really the reason I kept my AR so far. If for some reason I can't ride my bikes to work, then I will definitely go with the discos. Don't get me wrong, I still do drive it around town for other reasons. Sometimes I need some tacos.
 
Which position are you running for your Antirock these days? I’ve been playing with mine since bumping to 4”, but haven’t gotten too much Highway time yet.

I run mine on the second hold from the front. I figure if I run it in the first hole, I might as well just be running discos at that point. At the center hole it had a serious pucker factor leaving the freeway on an circular exit, Now it is just hair-raising.

Question to @ac_ . You have any measurement on those OME shocks on wifeys jeep? You wouldn't want to flex them out, but I bet you could put them in your Jeep and take it for a spin to go get tacos without damaging them. Then you get apples to apples comparison of the different shocks
 
Travel bias will be off a bit, but he won't have to worry about bottoming out the shocks for sure. I still wish they made the first gen OME's I loved those shocks! A bit more of a sports car feel, but still kind on the small events. The Ranchos have a bit more body roll, but are still acceptable.

I've done a few things to improve roll-control; here's the biggie, a .75" diameter rear stabilizer/anti-sway bar.
