I haven’t made any mistakes yet, but I haven’t done anything to my Jeep yet either. Let’s hear your biggest mistakes when modding your Jeep so nobody else makes the same mistake.

Installed a Rancho 2.5 HD lift on my YJ. It beat me to death for years before I finely broke down and spend the $$ on the Old Man Emu lift.

I installed that dash mount for my CB radio. Now when I run with no doors my radio pretty much hangs out in the weather. Did not think that one through.

Painted my front bumper, steering stabilizer, and fog light housings battleship grey. After seeing how stupid it looked, I repainted the bumper back to black. Don't know what came over me to do that, other than boredom.

Electric fan.... by far the worst. Should have research it better. Even with a high output spal fan, at highway the engine temp would start creeping up. The relay for such amp rating would burn up within a week. Even made a special shroud, but it dint work either. Back to stock fan clutch and very happy.

Bosall Brand Catalytic converters. Was on a time crunch to get my Jeep inspected and my usual mechanic buddy was out of town. Guy i used swore by these. They are garbage and had to be cut and re-welded and shaped to work without contacting the front drive shaft.

When I installed a Rubicon express trac bar. Should have just coughed up the money for the Currie one I have now.
Edit: it’s not a mod but I recently painted my hood with a spray can and man did I do a f**ked up job.

KO2 tires. I thought they were fantastic, which they were, until I started running them more on the rocks. I had two sidewall punctures and chunks missing out of the tires every-time I went wheeling.

Interesting. Figured the sidewalls on the KO2 would be stronger than the Duratracs. They might be, but haven't heard many complaints on the KO2 sidewalls.

Installed a smittybilt bumper and tire carrier

Curious why? I just installed a set of XRC bumpers on my TJ I got brand new for $300 for both. They seem pretty good so far. A friend has them on his JK and has hit the Rubicon a dozen times with no issues. Just curious what I may run into, thanks!

I had/have the XRC carrier and bumper. My complaints are mostly directed toward the carrier. After awhile it began to shake/rattle like crazy, it also sagged an inch if not more. I had to pick it up in order for it to fit into the latch housing. The latch also allows water to enter and will rust. I had to beat mine open with a mallet if I wanted in the back (not kidding either). The carrier is mounted to a post that is mounted on the bumper. The carrier just sleeves over the post. A good carrier would have a bearing there. I will say though, that the bumper did include frame tie-ins, which many manufactures do not include (you have to buy separately). And the finish on the bumper has held up well despite all the gouges and dents mine has. Where I wheel though, the bumper is far to large and takes away from my departure angle. It gets hung up on the corners, as well as the low mounted hitch.

Ive since replaced the carrier with a bestop, and the bumper is not far behind. Make sure you snub the carrier, I am pretty sure thats why mine started to squeak and rattle.

Definitely stronger than Duratracs. To be clear, I'm not saying the KO2 is a bad tire. However, on the rocks the MTZ P3s I replaced them with have given me zero issues like that thus far.
